As much as I like Hanifin, the Canes already have 9 NHL dmen as is, with their LD set with Slavin, Orlov, Skjei, and Jones. If push comes to shove, Chatfield and Pesce, who are both RD can play their offside to success. But as is, Hanifin would be the 4th in line for a LD spot ahead of Jones. It would make more sense to move Skjei, but at that point it’s just a rental LHD swap, and it really doesn’t help the Canes accomplish what they need to do if they move a dman, which is bring in another forward.

Hanifin is almost certainly out, so a Skjei-Backlund swap could be something that gets arranged.
