Agreed. Yzerman gave up little value here. Lindstrom is an NHL/AHL tweener and the 4th could be you or me.

Lindström is one of the best suite presences in the game. Don't disrespect him.

Right but, we're clogged at D. No room for Edvinsson or Johansson barring a Chiarot trade. I assume this locks Gostisbehere will be gone at the TDL.

Clogged at D right now yup. Lots of time for things to happen. If no one goes down hurt then you make a move...who cares. The goal here is to keep prospects at appropriate levels so they don't need to step into something they are not ready for.

I wonder what Seider thinks? "Yzerman has no interest in Jeff Petry."
🤣

Kind of like "Tyler Bertuzzi will never play for the Leafs."

I don't hate it. But it makes the Holl signing look even worse now.
I don't mind Holl, I just hate the term. Wish it was for 1 year deal. 2 max.

This is fine. Both Johansson and Edvinsson are recovering from season ending injuries and need time to get up to speed. They will have first refusal for injury duty and the one of them that has the best season will get the call when Ghost is traded at the TDL.

Very good asset management from Steve...

Yeah, he ends up in Detroit but for less than half of what most Canadiens fans on here thought.

Maybe Stevie Y isn't finished wheeling and dealing?

Yeah. Certainly makes it a headscratcher. Hope we just buy out Chiarot, or somehow get rid of him for a reasonable price.

I do remember, a few weeks before hand, I was a big advocate for a Pellikka draft and use Petry as a bridge guy.

I mean, I personally would've liked to see one of these guys out of the AHL after a few weeks, but this certainly makes this much harder.

Chiarot on the Sharks would guarantee SJS as the worst team in the league! Plus, he's signed for the '24-'25 season, which looks to be a better draft than '23-'24!!!!

I don't think we need any help being the worst team in the NHL. ☹️

He's got a lot of Vets / experience on the blueline now, which I don't mind at all after the past 7 years of watching Detroit's D get regularly blown apart. More experience on the blueline is never a bad thing. Petry, Chiarot, Holl, Maatta, Ghost, these guys will all shuffle around the bottom 4 with Walman and Seider locking down the top pairing. It almost guarantees Edvinsson will start the season in Grand Rapids, also don't totally mind. Injuries are going to happen. Theres no way Petry, Chiarot, Holl, Maatta and Ghost are all gonna play 82 games at their age. Edvinsson, Johansson, Wallinder, Tuomisto will all benefit from a full year getting a lot of minutes in GR,

Well injuries do happen so it's nice to have some solid defensive depth. I won't question Yzerman like 95% of CFACGM does. He knows what he's doing. More than I can say for my GM. ☹️

If we didn't have Holl signed I would love this move. Petry at 2.3m is actually a steal for what he brings. he was just wayyyy overpaid in Pittsburgh at 6.25m. But with both Holl and Petry we now have two older RD's locked in for the next 2 years, which i'm not overly thrilled about.

Although I'm not a fan of our defensive situation, it's certainly not as big of an issue as many of the trolls on here claim it is.
The Holl signing, although he's better than Chiarot, is a bit confusing now. If we're able to get rid of one of these guys, it'll make a lot more sense. Our best RD prospect (and imo, the only NHL projected one) was just drafted this year. Three years is a good estimate for him to actually scratch this roster, so.

It's always easier to acquire players in the summer than it is during the season. Yzerman knows this. Better to have too much depth than not enough depth.

Yzerman is buying time until his young studs are ready. Casual fans look at the now and blast Yzerman. But he's clearly thinking 3-4 years from now.
