This a complete contrast to the Edvinsson+Berggren for Nylander trade.

Wings would be moving Chiarot becuase they have 7 expensive D right now; can't see them taking back an even more expensive one in a trade

Leafs fans would explode. Don't do this to them. They already experienced the "Holl years."

Didn't Jarnkrok whine his way out of Detroit when he was a Red Wings prospect? I can't recall. ☹️

No, he only ever played 9 games in Grand Rapids before Holland decided he needed two months of David Legwand to try and keep the playoff record going...

Comparable to the Leafs fan that thinks Detroit has to trade waiver-exempt Edvinsson because of this logjam.

Kenny liked to "over ripen" his prospects IIRC. Seemed like Tatar and Nyquist would be in Grand Rapids until they turned 30. 😁

Proposed Edvinsson + Berggren for Nylander because there's no room for Edvinsson!

Has nothing to do with the quality of the player. The Wings just added Jeff Petry to a blueline that already has Chiarot, Justin Holl, Olli Maatta, Shayne Gostisbehere, Jake Walman, and Moritz Seider - why would they target TJ Brodie in a trade?

If they're moving Chiarot, it's to relieve the logjam at D. It makes zero sense for them to bring in a rental D like Brodie.

A Nylander for Edvinsson swap is at least in the realm of somewhat fair.

In this deal the leafs take on a #6/7 D who makes way too much for the next 2 years and a 4th (which is negligable) for a top pair shutdown D who can play both sides on a pretty decent deal, and Jarnekrok whos a decent versitle winger player on a fair deal.

The wings would be lucky to not add a sweetener to dump Chiarot, let alone take the top shutdown D on a top 5 team and a decent winger for him

The Red Wings trading one of the top prospects in hockey for a rental who wants more than what he's worth is not in the realm of realism.
Admittedly, it's not as egregious as this.

For this to make the "real of possibility" would require
A) Detroit 50% Retention
B) Upgrade that 4th rounder to a better pick.

"why take a top pair guy with one less year for an overpaid 6/7???" like seriously. The could flip brodie or dump another D if they really wanted too. Also this would bring them to what 8 NHL D? Injuries happen, having that many isn't the worst thing in the world

Why would the leafs do this deal? It makes no sense for them to downgrade on D and forward in a year they want to contend.

In a vacuum that might make sense if the pick is a 1st and a second or third with the retention and Jarnkrok going the other way.

People are talking like Nyander wants 14 mill and he should go for a 2nd rd pick. He wants 10 and he's asking for more because other leafs aren't taking a discount so why should he. Also almost all players of high caliber that get moved in the last yr of their deal have a deal in place with the new team (see the Tkachuk trade last yr)

Realistically he could get 9-9.5 with another team. He's worth that. a 9 million dollar PPG play driver should get a lot in a trade. Not saying Detroit values him over Edvinson considering where they are, but a very good prospect for Willy is not crazy.

Yeah, you said Brodie was better than Chiarot and I said it didn't matter to me, I don't think it makes sense for Detroit to swap Chiarot out for another D because it leaves them in the same position they're in now: 7 NHL-caliber D for 6 spots. Whether it's Brodie or Chiarot on the team, they're still going to be spending $3M to have one of those guys sit in the press box every night, and that's why I don't think it's a realistic trade. Not trying to put words in your mouth at all.

Wings fans are all over these boards are talking about how getting Petry is potentially blocking multiple guys that are expected to be in the AHL this year (Wallinder, Edvinsson, et al.) I don't think they're too worried about D depth.

Toronto doesn't make this deal in the first place, but I was just pointing out the fact that I don't think this helps Detroit solve their immediate problem and that I think if they move Chiarot it's more likely that they move him for a similarly-priced forward, seeing as it's super unlikely that they can dump his deal.

Yes he did.

That why Kenny Holland dealt him to Nashville to bring Detroit boy David Legwand home to finish his career in his hometown.

Player A: UFA at season's end (at the time), due a raise. Scored 8 less points than Nylander that season on a bad team (played over half the season with known 3rd liners). 110% work ethic all the time, refined defensive game, offensive play driver, team leader. According to Leafs fans, worth a late 1st and a B prospect.
Player B: UFA at season's end, due a raise, wants a fortune. Scored 40 goals once. Scored over a point per game once. Work ethic suspect. Defensively talented, but only puts forth effort on occasion. According to Leafs fans, worth at least 2 of: 1st round picks, blue chip prospects, good young roster players with team control.

Guesses as to who the players are?
