The Minny deal is the right idea imo, but Hartman's contract is effin' gold. Foligno is kind of meh for me in the sense of he is more the rental. Beyond that, with Minny having $14 million in dead cap, acquiring Nylander is completely not going to happen. Like the Leafs, they need to spread that money around.

Honestly I want no part of Parayko. That contract simply isn't going to age well. Moreover, in terms of offensive ability and tenacity if a deal is struck with the Blues, I would sooner look at Faulk..... shorter term and actually nastier with silimilar production.

Parakyo's name keeps popping up because it is a bigger name. Faulk is rather under the radar in comparison.

Speaking frankly as a Blues fan you're best off sticking with Brodie

Brodie is great.

But us Leafs faithful see a blueline that would get runover by a clown car

I like Nylander to the Wild, too. It will be another tight year in 24-25 regardless, but they could make it work. Maybe swap out the 1st for one of their current prospects though, depending on what Toronto values more. That, or more likely just wait until he gets to free agency. I think with several more contracts expiring after this coming season, they would be able to fit in his extension as long as it is around the $9-10M range.

Granted this would certainly mean moving on from Kaprizov's buddy Zuccarello, as well as Hartman who is going to be a tricky valuation. And as an aside, of Zucc/Hartman/Foligno, I actually think Guerin would be most likely to re-sign Foligno. Depends on if Rossi/Khusnutdinov can show up in the next two seasons as Hartman's replacement. Will be much easier to replace Zuccarello than Hartman, especially considering Mats' age.

The issue with that trade construct is Hartman's contract maybe the best in the NHL. Being a 50-60 point guy with jam and can play centre has value. Getting that at $1.9 million? That makes him a very very valuable commodity that in this construct takes away from a Nylander return. Now, his market value as a UFAis tougher to gauge, but I would be thinking the baseline of a new deal is around Trochek..... and depnding on the term, that could still look OK.

But, if Willy wants his $10 million per, I am not sure that happens in Minny unless your aforementioned prospect are ready next year.... which they could be (I like Minny's system a lot). Not saying it couldn't be done, but it would be trickier than meets the eye.

Good points, that particular package would be very unlikely. Thus my comment about seeing whether Nylander just gets to UFA and try to sign him there instead. The Wild will need Hartman, Foligno, and the other cheap contracts this season. That will make getting Nylander much more unlikely, as I assume if he gets traded he would sign an extension with the team he lands on. But he ain't the only big name out there... i.e., an Elias Lindholm would be a better fit based on the Wild's needs, especially if the C prospects aren't up to expectation.

I would include Pettersson there too, but his trade/re-sign price will be astronomical.

Depending on wher the Wild are that the deadline, I can see Hartman moving. The player with that contract with retention? The return should be fantastic. Has 1st rounder + written all over it.

I have to ask… is this based off of looking at stats? The reason Faulk is able to continually put up good stats is pretty dependent on Parayko handling the large majority of the load of defensive responsibilities.

Faulk isn’t bad and he has his times where he seems like he has good compete in the d zone. But it’s not consistent. He’s not a stabilizer.

When you downgrade from Nylander to two bottom 6 grinders you are not improving depth. You are making the team a one line team because after Matthews our play driving ability falls off a cliff.

If I were to land Faulk, I would be wanting to pair him with McCabe honestly.... who is a stabilizer in many ways.

Faulk with Reilly would be a train wreck.... I agree with that.

I’m not really sure it would be a train wreck. Faulk and Krug were one of the best pairs in the league stats wise in 2022. However, they had like a 65-70% ozs mainly due to Paraykos pairing always taking the harder minutes. I would be pretty certain stating that Reilly is an upgrade pretty much everywhere aside from on the powerplay over Krug

No, Parayko's name keeps popping up because wishful thinking never dies in Toronto. This "offer" is utterly laughable.
