The 2024 first can be used to acquire a rental for the playoffs, especially one that can play in the top-6 on the right side for 2m dollars or more. It might be very difficult for the rangers to keep Kakko beyone next season given all the raises they have to give out to players in the future.

Lol a rental? That’s a dumb idea

They have enough cap to re-sign Kakko. Trading him for a 1st is tremendously bad asset management

I mean, you guys traded Buchnevich for a 3rd, so it isn't totally unrealistic.
