Pinto on a 1 year

Created by: wardbell92
Team: 2023-24 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 17, 2023
Published: Aug. 17, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pinto signs for less this year and bets on himself to get a long-term higher deal next summer. He does a solid for the Sens and gets rewarded with the higher cap next year.

Start with Joseph up with Norris to try and get him going to start. If it doesn't work, there are lots of ways to mix up the top 9. Greig comes up with any injury in the top 9.

For the D config, I like the old-school Tampa style of having a stud on each pairing and Chycrun can come up and play with Sanderson on double duty replacing Brannstrom.

SJ trade makes sense for both sides. Sens save some much-needed cap space without losing depth in the forward group. OTT loses Lassi but they likely lose him on waivers to start the year, SJ gets the better goalie (IMO) with having to retain a little bit and they get a decent D prospect that needs a change of scenery.

Idk if downgrading goalies makes much sense for us, but who knows how forsburg bounces back from injury. not completely opposed to the idea.

Joseph has enough left in him that a team with space could take him on without any major losses to the Sens. I’d take him in Montreal with a 3rd attached.

Id rather be paid a pick to move Kubalik than pay a pick to move Joseph

I don't think the SJS trade make any sense for SJS.

Pinto deserves much better than that, even on a one year deal $2M would be a bargain.

No way the Sens should do this. Massive downgrade in goal and giving up a decent prospect who just needs an opportunity on top of that? Forsberg is not a cap dump lol

Just trade Kubalik

Forsberg is much better than Kähkönen

Thomson has 0.60 PPG in the AHL the last 2 years and already has shown he could play in the NHL

They are not duds lol

That's because you have known and have seen Joseph for a long time. You know he's not a "cap dump" like CF has stupidly built up. Some are even asking a 1st or two 2nds lol

Just too logic.

- Ottawa needs PK and ES 2-way ability more than PP scoring. Joseph brings that more than Kubalik

- Kubalik returns a pick, Joseph costs a pick to move

- Kubalik is UFA-to-be and walks as Ottawa wouldn't have the cap to sign him anyway (they need to replace Tarasenko instead)

The Athletic evaluated his extension at 1.78 AAV on a 2 years contract. If the 2nd year is worth 2.5, the 1st year would be worth 1.25. Nothing outrageous, it's a 1 year bridge deal and Pinto doesn't even have leverage. He'll make it back and beyond as soon as the following year.
