Trouba's inclusion is about the salary. This trade for the Canes is all about Lafreniere.

I don't think Laf is really all that valuable anymore. Has struggled to surpass 3rd line production especially considering he was drafted 1OA 3 years ago. Turbo will outscore him. Trouba is essentially a downgrade on Pesce and they'd be adding a first on top of it?

The Rangers open up massive cap space with this trade by eliminating most of Trouba's 3 year cap hit. That's valuable in and of itself considering the pending K'Andre Miller blockbuster extension in 2 seasons. Pesce is also a piece that is potentially a long-term fit unless they view Schneider to be a top-4 caliber player long-term.

There’s a few ways they can open up their cap space but trading Trouba isn’t one of them… Moving Barclay Goodrow is the only thing they need to get enough cap space until Panarins deal expires. Apart from that, there’s only Trocheck but I doubt they’ll be able to move him and especially not for justifiable value

Carolina isn’t adding here. Trouba at $8 mil is not in the same world as Pesce as a rental at $4 mil. Teuvo is worth more than Laf right now as well. Given Trouba’s NMC, we’d be better off just buying him out. Mission needs to be offloading Panarin, Trouba, Goodrow and Trocheck. Leave the core guys at Shesty, Mika, Kreider, Fox and Lindgren and the younger potential core of Chytil, Kakko, Laf, Miller and Schneider. We need to think long term and that is bridging the gap until Perrault, Othmann, Cuylle, Sykora, Berard, McConnell Baker, Korczak, Jones, Fortescue, Robertson and Garand are ready. By then our current set of young guys aged 21-24 will be 24-27 and ready to fight it out in the playoffs. Our current problem is the lack of guys aged 25-28 in the lineup, which we don’t have and won’t for a few years. Plus Igor by then would only be 30-31 which is still relatively young for a goalie. It’d give us a 3-5 year time before thinking of another retool/ rebuild. Only problem is everyone thinks we’re ready to win the cup now, I just don’t see it yet.

Are you insane? Lafreniere isn't enough to dump that Trouba deal LMAO. It's one of the worst contracts in the league. Full no move, 8 million for someone that is probably best suited to the 3rd pair. In return, Carolina are parting with 2 core pieces AND a 1st? New York accept this in a heartbeat. Canes laugh

That bring him down from one of the worst contracts in the league to your average bad contract... to get out from under that deal should be a priority for the Rangers. He's worth 2-3 million, maybe 3.5-4 with the cap increase. He's making 8....
