If everything hinges on moving Rust then you might as well forget about it...... Rust has a full NMC and has publicly stated the reason for that is to keep his young family in Pittsburgh. He won't waive for any trade similar to JC77

Sabres aren't trading for a 31 year old on a bad contract that'll just take up a roster spot.

Also it is funny people think his contract is bad. He had a bad year yes but the past 3 years before that rust is .75-1 point per game player. I like rust but garland + tatar > rust. But would keep rust over garland.

Skinner Thomas rust for buffalo could be a good line.

I wouldn’t be so quick to dismiss the idea

Tha Sabres won’t do this deal right NOW
But if we get off to a slow start where we aren’t scoring,
or we have another injury in our top9,
then we would 100% (at least) CONSIDER this deal

It’s reasonable

First of all, it’s Thompson & not Thomas
2nd, our top line is already a good line with Tuch on it, who is better than Rust

Not saying i wouldn’t consider this deal,
but that part of your logic was quite faulty

If you are asking if his NMC expires after this year the answer is no it last until next year as well.... Rust wanted to remain in Pittsburgh for his young family (has 2 kids under 3 years old)

See my thought rust will be cheaper than resigning victor. Yes he is younger I get it but what if he wants something like 6.5mx7 years would rust be better than that. And what does it cost a second not that much.

Still missing 2 key factors to consider:

1. Rust is not waiving his NMC. He will be a Penguin for the next 2 years.

2. Rust is not a 30 goal scorer... Olofsson pretty much was. 30 goal scorers pretty much average at over 6.5 AAV

Buffalo would be better off to just trade for Garland themselves then get saddled with that Rust contract.

Tuch had a good season, but still has to show more consistency. As of now, Rust > Tuch.

Laughable
If Rust is that good, then just keep him
Bc any interest we’d have would be mild, at best

Ok, I'm one of the few Sabres fans that likes victor. I think it's fun watching him shoot, and he's good at it. There's holes in the rest of his game. He needs to find the right situation- middle 6 right wing, in a good system, with a responsible center who knows how to set up. Because there's so much support needed, he's not a typical 30 goal winger, he's not getting anything like 6.5m from anybody. I think if you can check some of those boxes and make him fit, I'd suggest 3.5-4 per, for 2 years.

I am very content with keeping Rust. Don't know why the poster here is trading him.

The general consensus (small sample size for what it’s worth, i wanna say 4ppl) have basically said they just wanna use the Cap Space in another way & don’t think he’s that good

That's disappointing to hear. It was considered a bit of a down season, but Rust still scored 20 goals. Just my opinion, but I think he bounces back and has a Zucker like season. When he gets hot, he's boiling hot.

Now that Petry, Granlund, Rutta and DeSmith all got traded, I feel like some Pens fans just want to trade the next guy on here lol. Dubas is most likely done.

You’d know more than me
Just relaying what I’ve been hearing
Again though, small sample size, so it might not mean a whole lot
