Devils don't need to be going all-in in year 2 of their window. Holtz should not be anywhere near this trade.

Six of the last eight cups were won by Hill, Kuemper, Holtby, Binnington, and Murray. One is a career backup recently traded to a rival for scraps, one is a slightly above average starter, and the last three very quickly fell apart and got replaced as starters. All of them were the same age or younger than Hellebuyck will be come playoffs.

2/8 vs. 6/8. Playoffs are as much about whose goalie got hot and stayed hot as they are anything else. Sure it's easier if your goalie is elite, but 6/8 weren't elite and 4/7 aren't even good goalies (Hill TBD, Kuemper good)

All in is done at the end of a contention window, not the beginning and this is an overpay, The prospect going the other way would be somebody like Clarke or Stillman, not NJ's top fwd prospect

Yeah it's likely they would have won anyways, but it isn't a sure thing, Vasilevskiy did come up big at times.

Why not dance with who ya got? Other than a handful of PO games we all loved Vitek, and Schmid looks to be a keeper. Most expect the following year to be big for us. Helle will be a UFA and cost nothing but cash. He wants to be on a winner and if we have another year like this or better, there is nothing to prove to him. A short term win now window for him. I only see a couple of teams that would have similar window (Buf, Ott, which others?)
