That Elliot Friedman interview in Stockholm screamed that he's leaving. I dont see why he'd stay with an org run by a tyrannical owner, high costs of living (I saw Horvat's house in Kits modest to say the least) crime getting worse, terrible travel times, high taxes. And, most of all the team has never won anything and doesnt look close with a barren prospect cupboard. He's seen the landscape. The closer it gets to the start of the season, he's gone!

CBJ would be crazy to refuse that deal tho. You cant rely on picks becoming a 100 point player, Petey on his own carrying a line. Bedard may get there, maybe.

Pens can't take Garlands full contract without moving salary. Any interest in Jeff Carter? Maybe slip him a bag of cash to say yes?

In total fairness, these apply to most cities in North America right now...

Demko gets a lot more, especially if we’re retaining half

I feel like Miller could get more with the retention. PPG forward that can play any position for 5M

Should be getting more in the Petey trade if we’re taking on Merzlikins and giving up Swayman

I once again have to ask; In the event where Pettersson did want out, who is offering a package relatively close to the one you have the Jackets giving up here that forces them to offer something this insane?

Montreal probably could, also how is this insane? You're also getting a high end starting goalie and getting rid of a giant cap dump.

You also have to factor in that you are not only also dumping Merzlikins awful contract, but also getting a young top 10-15 goalie in the league in Swayman on top of Pettersson. If anything this is an underpay by Columbus

A 1/2 and a 3/4 defenseman along with two 1sts is an insane package. I'm also not willing to commit to the idea that there is *that* much of a difference between Swayman and Merzlikins when one was playing behind the best defensive team in the league last year with a great HC and the other was playing behind nearly the most injured and worst defensive team with probably close to the worst coach in the league over the last 10 years.

Its not insane at all. Hes being ridiculous. CBJ, MTL and Minnesota would easily turn over heaven and Earth.

Gotta disagree. Even if you take out the goalie swap I think this is a good deal for CBJ value wise. Only change I'd want is Fantilli or KJ instead of Jiricek cause RD1 takes a big hit with him gone and with Petey they can lose one of the other 2 more easily. Then just adjust the value a bit maybe based on who you put in

The smartest thing the Canucks could do is trade Petey at is highest value which is probably why it wont happen.
They'd easily get another top center back plus a puck mover and 1sts. 100 point players under 25 are in another universe, value wise.
If the offer isnt 'insane' Petey wont be moved.
The Nucks arent going to say.. 'oh right nobody else is bidding I guess we will take whatever' PLD even got hella value. I'm sure somehow Vegas would be offering their whole team including Eichel for Petey

Yeah, this is about as great as you could ask for value wise from CBJ's perspective imo. I'd make a very big effort to not move Jiricek because of the positional surplus/need it'd create for Columbus, but this is a slam dunk for Columbus.

I'd trade Dach, Reinbacher with high picks easily for Petey. The Vegas model works. Be bold. Pay for that elite talent.

Oh no, I'm 100% for the trade. I'm just saying it'd be preferable from CBJ to do it with Fantilli/KJ vs Jiricek given what assets they have rn. It does look like KJ might end up playing wing (though that's TBD), but moving Jiricek locks them into Severson as 1RD long term. Not the worst position to he in or anything given they'd have a top 6 of JG/Petey/Marchnko and KJ/Fantilli/Laine, but from a teambuilsing perspective I'd rather keep that elite RD prospect and sacrifice the elite C prospect instead considering they're getting an elite C in the trade.
