Pesce Instead of Ceci

Created by: KDow88
Team: 2023-24 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 24, 2023
Published: Aug. 24, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
IF they could unload both Ceci and Foegele, then the retention likely wouldn't be required.. But if they could get Pesce to replace Ceci, this team would be Top 2 in the West with Colorado.. Feeling Campbell has a bounce back year being more comfortable with a season behind him now..

"defensive defenseman" is really just a code word for bad defenseman these days

AZ doesnt have roster spot or really a need for another bottom 6 W - he is on last year doubt he gets better than 3rd @TDL, so trade makes no sense from AZ piont

You don't really know who Ceci and Foegele are I take it.

Both guys are handily outperforming their contracts. Dumping them for a pair of 3rd is not smart business - especially when you're then overpaying for Ceci's replacement and then not replacing Foegele at all.

Overall the team is worse and you spent Broberg + Lavoie + 2nd to do it.

Is this a reverse red paperclip thing?

100% what I meant by it, but some NHL execs still like certain players, if they gave Shattenkirk $3.5m for 3 years, I am sure they'd look at Ceci for $3.25m and only 2 years remaining.. Just an idea..

Yeah, I just used the Yotes because everybody dumps their trash in AZ for players.. 3rd round is kind of a decent price to pay for a 15 goal scorer whose cap hit is under $3m- I'm doubting either trade gets made, and Pesce will likely stay in Carolina, but in a perfect world dropping Ceci and Foegele for a couple picks and taking flyers on a good young F in Comtois and a season vet like Sutter for less than Foegele's price would be very enticing...

The "they" in that sentence was Bob Murray so that matters zero in what Pat Verbeek would do. Verbeek has brought in Gudas for 3 years and Lybushkin for 1 for the cost of a UFA contract and a 4th round pick.

Giving up another 3rd to a team in the same division to help their cap situation seems highly unlikely when it's for a defenseman that the Ducks really don't have a spot for any more.

Yeah, I forgot Bob is not there anymore my bad, basically any team that has the space for a D man like Ceci that would be willing to give up a middle round pick to free up the space is really what I would be getting at.. But ya, ohhh Bobby boy such a terrible human being...

If they would like good young players I bet they would- former 1st round pick who is now ready to be the FT NHL DMan, and a high 2nd Rd Pick who is big and can score, plus a 2nd round kicker- I bet they would consider it, IF they want younger players for Pesce..

Broberg, as of right now, would be the 5th LHD on the depth charts behind Slavin, Orlov, Skjei, and Jones. He is on not ahead of NB who is on a PTO, more than likely just for the 1 preseason split squad game. Even if the Canes were to let Skjei and Jones walk in the off-season, he would still be rotting on the 3rd pair, assuming the Canes don’t make any other moves or Chatfield takes that spot, or he would be rotting in the AHL. He simply doesn’t have any value to the Canes. And again, using draft position as a reason for his value is just plain ignorant. As for Lavoie, the same reasoning above for Broberg applies here. He isn’t cracking the Canes roster, and with the RW depth the Canes have in the pipeline, he would be hard pressed to get top playing time in the AHL. Lavoie doesn’t have much value to the Canes either. The most valuable piece to the Canes in this offer is the 2nd rounder, and that simply won’t cut it.

If Broberg is still worth a 1st, the same logic applies with Ryan Suzuki and D. Bokk. The Canes aren’t going to complete downgrade their roster for a set of futures that will end up have virtually no impact on the roster.
