Overpaying the likes of Bertuzzi and Brodie is a good example of spending money just to spend it, and the best possible way to ruin the rebuild before it starts. "How much money can we throw at whatever mid guys happen to be available" isn't it.

I like brodie but I wouldn't give him that contract. I hope vlasic and reichel do enough this season to earn those contracts but I doubt vlasic gets Bouchard money.

It's not an overpay that's the going rate... Hagel just got 6.5 x 8, Troy Terry got 7 x 8, Bertuzzi will get that type of cash as well. Brodie is proabably going to command 7-8 AAV and his term will prob start at 4. Keep in mind the Hawks will have to have more salary just to reach the floor next year, the ELCs even if Berdard's bonuses kick in will not be enough to comply with the cap floor.

Way too much for Brodie

Overpaying for players on 1-2 year contracts to hit the cap floor is fine but not for an 8 year contract. Especially when Bedard is going to need a $10M+ salary in 3 years, Plus who knows what we have in Reichel, Korchinski, Moore, and Nazar. Even if they all make $5M lets say, that's $30M for 5 players. Add in $9.5M for Jones. You're at almost $40M for 6 players. Last think you want to do is start adding in Bertuzzi and Brodie.

I also don't think Hartman signs for that little.

As for Hartman that's way more than he is currently making. I get the point about the long-term cash however with the cap ceiling increasing these mid-above avg players are going to command that type of cash.
