I say this not as an attack, but just matter-of-fact. Duchene could not handle being the face of the franchise in Denver. He struggled mightily in Ottawa with high expectations. He only thrived when he got to Nashville. I truly think that playing in Toronto would wreck that man. I doubt you would get more than 40 points out of him and he would likely miss time.

I dont know about that. In Colorado he was the best player on the team for multiple years. In Ottawa he disappointed a bit in his first season when he was traded mid season and had to learn new systems, but the following year scored 58P in 50GP. Then struggled on CBJ in the reg season as a rental but performed with 10P in 10GP in the playoffs. In NSH he's had up and down years but recently has been very good. I know theres bad blood with him and the Avs but im trying to be objective and im not really following how his history suggests he would crumble under the pressure in Toronto

The bad blood thing is a little over-played, he just struggled emotionally when pressure got high. And I honestly think he knows it. I'm honestly really happy for him that he carved out such a great career for himself in Nashville. I just don't think he's a 2C on the leafs.

Petry didnt want to be in Canada due to the whole Covid thing. So that would not happen. Also dont want another old blue liner

After his experience in Ottawa dont think Duchene wanted to come back to Canada (also lower taxes)

And Nieto really is not an upgrade over anything currently

So not really no its about the same or one could argue less

Why the exact same player got a UFA signing for 1.6 M in Pius Suter. So getting ripped off 800 K for no reason is good? TML can not sign contracts period ,they hand out NMC and NTC like they are candy at Halloween. Is there a NHL team that hands out worse and more overpriced contracts then TML? Remember we paid Marleau 6.5M when he was complete dog .... even before we signed him LMAO, that is the worst contract ever in NHL history. We had to pay a team a 1st round pick just to get rid of him. Nylander has to go , so tired of players who demand things so much that they affect the whole team. He is a POS whiner who only wants money that is why he wants to stay in Toronto, to get paid by the stupidest staff in the NHL.
