Yep, the Leafs should trade for a more expensive, a guy with three years of term and no better than Klingberg. But agree with you, JK seems like a questionable signing.

Cousins is bargain at 1.1m for Florida so he won't be traded.

I think I know what he's is trying to do with the Chiarot trade. You can't reduce Klingberg's cap hit but with the retention on Chiarot it makes him cheaper than Klingberg. It's only $310K but every little bit helps. As far as the term left on Chiarot's contract I don't know maybe it's let's get in under the cap and worry about it later. I'm not saying this is good or bad for Toronto but I think it's the logic behind this trade.

Detroit is not going to spend a retention slot for three years for a rental.

Especially for a measly $950k. Plus Yzerman likes Chiarot for some reason.
