stop gap center

Description
i made a post a while ago about possible centres the jets could target considering they have a classic hole in their lineup (perfetti and vilardi are unproven at 2C). a trade like this helps NYI with their cap crunch next year, gives stanley a change of scenery, and gets the jets a C that can play up and down the lineup whos also good at faceoffs.

seeing as the jets will probably give perfetti/vilardi a chance first, a deal like this is more plausible at the TDL. would NYI accept?

Islanders won't do that. JGP at 5m would have limited value (even though he is a good player) but would have quite a bit at 3.5m.

I don't see this making sense for the Islanders at all.

Yes but I also don't see why the Islanders would want to sell him. UNLESS his cap needs to leave to add a star forward. Which is possible.

We dont need stanley and we arent retaining. A deal could be done but it wouldnt be with retention and would get us back a LW (so maybe a 3rd team involved?)

Pageau's 16 team M NTC would exclude any trade to the Jets. Jets are the most popular (or unpopular) depending on how you look at as as "no trade" destinations.

i recognize your point but he’s from ottawa tho so it’s not like he’s not used to small market teams in cold places. he’d also get the opportunity to take a larger role on the team. so i think it’s less likely he’d have the jets on his list, especially if they’re in a playoff spot at the TDL

Jets are better off trying to get a mid 6 forward that has one year left as a rental while Lucius, McGroaty, Lambert, Barlow develop for one more year. I am thinking Adam Henrique, Brock Boeser or Jordan Ebrle.

the thing is those names all play wing and the jets are flush with wingers rn. i also think they’re planning a bit more long-term: they still have a lot of forwards signed for next year and most of their prospects will likely be given another season to develop instead of making the roster out of camp. 2025, however…
