Prospects and opening night roster

Description
My way too early hot takes.

Danielson makes opening night roster. Likely only plays 9 games and goes to BWK. He has looked really good so far in Traverse city and might be worth seeing what he can do against top competition, especially seeing he can’t go to GR. If he continues a strong showing in camp and preseason, as I think he will, they’ll give him a look, see what he can do and send him to juniors to develop more offensively. Easily the most well rounded wings prospect in my opinion. Already.

Soderblom is looking strong. Starts the year in GR and is the first call up. I expect him to come up halfway through and seize his opportunity. Some time in GR will help build chemistry with other younger players for the future and allow him to build momentum, further develop offensive skills and using his size.

Kasper - always love compete but needs more refinement. No reason to rush him. Also is perfect having him in GR as a young role-model / peer for the other youngsters to follow in his work ethic and intensity in games and practice. I expect him to be a leader in GR and build chemistry with the other prospects.

Mazur - unfortunate timing for an injury, but otherwise likely same blurb as Kasper.

Hanas - really like what we’re seeing here. Unsure of trajectory but I do like the possibility he turns into something more and more.

Lombardi - still a project and will see what he can do against better competition. Needs to be able to bring the offensive game.

Tuomisto and Wallinder - I’ll group these two together as the size and raw athletic ability, especially watching them together is exciting. However, it’s not like they’re 18 and we can fall back on them climbing a steep development, they should already be mostly there. Need to continue in developing in their own zone and with decision making. Hopeful that a year in GR does them well, but especially seeing the 2 of them playing together is an exciting hopeful projection for what could be.

Don’t have much to say about Cossa, Gibson or Doucet. Am I missing someone else from the prospects tourney?

I guess I’m sending Berggren to GR (against my own will) while Danielson has his stint. I expect Maata to be scratched rarely but still think he’s most likely day 1.

I'm not sure why you think Nate Danielson was so good. He didn't impress me at all. Looked slow and didn't do much offensively. Kasper can skate but is a few years away. Soderblom is the only one who could make the Red Wings. Cossa is a major bust and stunk it up again tonight letting in five goals in a period before being pulled. Nate Danielson will go back to junior.

Gibson looks rough, needs a lot of work. I agree Danielson looks the part but I think he needs to just go back and dominate juniors. Sodes looks great.

Wallinder is still my bet for Seider’s long term partner. Tuomisto looked way better than last year.

Nate Danielson slow??? Hahaha. Dude, every Wings fan already knows you have the least credibility on this site, but to call Danielson slow is just absurd. I usually at least read what you have to say and try to think if it does have some merit. That’s just a bad take. I do somewhat agree Soderblom is one of the few that could make the Wings. But you also realize this is a man with pro seasons under his belt, much bigger and older than those he’s playing against in Traverse city right? To make sure you’re taking that into consideration, these guys will all look different against other levels of comp. Back to Danielson though, he is reliable all over the ice, playing a complete game, poised and generating some offence. The goal to generate more offence will land him in junior. But the other factors I believe could earn him a look so that both team and player see what their future marriage needs

Wallinder skates so well, would be nice with Seider. I still don’t count out Walman sticking for a fairly long time as MO’s partner.

Sodes has looked terrific, but he is physically dominant over these younger players. Big difference against NHLers, but he does have the potential.

Like I said, I think that will be the teams plan with Danielson. I do think you’re correct there. But it’s my bold prediction that he impresses and they grant him some games as a result. Just to give him a taste and then send him off to juniors and tell him to light it up

Hanas, Mazur and Elmer may have a shot but I doubt it. None of the defenseman look even close to being ready.

There's no need to send Berggren to GR, McIsaac is being sent down, he's not in the top-10 on the depth chart.

There has never been a worse team with so many bad contracts. Yzerman really needs to get the boot.

Get outta here you imposter. Took me 2 seconds to realize what’s going on here, you’re so very funny

Wallinder has been our best player in this tournament imo. He just needs to bulk up a bit and should be ready for the 24-25 season.

One thing I noticed was that Marco Kasper was terrible in the faceoff-dot. Meanwhile Danielson won almost every faceoff he took. Maybe Kasper becomes a Matthew Tkachuk 2.0 and Danielson is the future 2C.

Minus Wallinder’s terrible turnover to setup a goal in game 1, I’d mostly agree. And agree with the rest. Athletically, Wallinder is a specimen. So if all goes well in his development we can expect good things. It’s just another thing that makes Danielson already a complete player. He can play both ends of the ice, hold his own anywhere, and plays fast, smart, poised hockey. It’s why I think he’s the type of guy they could give a look to, even with the plan to send him to the BWK.
