Rebuild

Created by: BluesReport18
Team: 2023-24 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 21, 2023
Published: Sep. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Thought about moving Hart to the Kings because that seems like a good fit but there are a lot of questions around him right now so I don't think they would get a lot in a trade for him so it's just better to keep him for now.

The goal should be giving young players lots of icetime and selling veterans off at the deadline for picks.
Trades
1.
PHI
  1. Broberg, Philip
  2. Ceci, Cody
  3. Foegele, Warren
  4. Holloway, Dylan
  5. 2024 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Huge Trade. Philly eats half of Konecnys deal and takes the cap dump of Ceci and Foegele. Holloway is an high prospect and Broberg is a very good prospect (value is falling but still)
EDM
  1. Konecny, Travis ($2,750,000 retained)
  2. Seeler, Nick
2.
PHI
  1. Kyrou, Christian
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (DAL)
  3. 2025 3rd round pick (DAL)
3.
PHI
  1. Joseph, Mathieu
  2. Thomson, Lassi
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
This move saves Ottawa almost 2 million which is enough to sign Pinto. Teams swap 2nd and 3rd round picks and Philly gets Thomson who might end up on waivers anyway.
OTT
  1. Staal, Marc
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (PHI)

As much as I’d love oilers to get Konecny this doesn’t make sense for them to do. Foegele and Ceci play well enough to justify their contracts, they aren’t really cap dumps imo.

Losing both broberg and Holloway gives them basically no prospects that are going to be / close to being full time nhl players.

Losing foegs and Holloway completely depletes the bottom 6 and seeler doesn’t replace the 20 minutes a night that ceci plays. Oil would have to make at least two more trades to fill the holes this one creates.

Completely agree with this take. The oilers top 6 is top 3 in the league currently, even if the trade is far it's not one they need to make. If they were to spend assets even close to this I'd rather they do it on a top-4 shutdown RD (Connor Murphy comes to mind), regardless of that their biggest concern shouldn't be making any big splashes like this. The bottom 6 is what should be focused on, something like a move for Nic Dowd could work out well.

Essentially this isn't a trade the Oilers need to make, TK would work better on a up and coming team that are looking for a playoff push, such as the Sabers, Coyotes or Wings

Dowd all day long. 4c is their biggest hole.
An upgrade on ceci would be nice, although significantly more difficult to pull off

I dont think if EDM and PHI make a deal its that one.

However something could be said for Ceci at 3.25mil for say expiring Stall at 1mil or Sean Walker at 50% for 1.325mil.

Saves EDM cap and provides a defender who played 18+ minutes a night in return.

As for what PHI would want? (They really dont want ceci) maybe a 2nd or a 3rd and 5th.

As for the OTT deal, I just dont think theres enough for PHI in it, they give up a guy who is probably worth a 3rd at least all season long to acquire a winger they dont need, whos signed for 3 yrs at 3mil and a guy who might be on the waiver wire, to move up 15-25 spots in the draft? I'm thinking PHI takes that deal, a deal OTT needs, but theres no pick coming from PHI.

There’s no spot and need for Marc Staal in Ottawa, have to replace him with a cheap forward

Losing Joseph, lowering a pick and a good prospect (although Dorion built things that there’s not even a path for him in Ottawa) just to get cap compliant this season, mainly because of the 5 M$ dead cap he created himself is BAD business and asset management

Particularly when all you could do is trade Kubalik for any pick you can get and call it a day

I agree that you could trade Kubalik for an actual return but that makes the team worse. I would personally rather keep Kubalik and play him in the top 6 or with Pinto. In this trade you just drop down 15ish picks maybe and lose a prospect that has no place on the team unfortunately. On top of that you get out of Josephs bad contract for the next 3 years and Sokolav can replace him on the 4th line for league minimum.

The thing with Kubalik is you have to do a bit of research. Last year he scored 17 of his 45 Pts on the PP. Who would he steal PP time over in Ottawa?

Stutzle? Tkachuk? Norris? Batherson? Giroux? Tarasenko? Chabot? Chychrun? Sanderson? Pinto?

There's even Greig and Brannstrom/Kleven who would need some and are more important to the future of the team.

The thing is also that Mathieu Joseph is easily the better Even Strength player, much better defensively and similar ES offensive production. Joseph is also one of the best PKers in the whole league

So no, keeping Kubalik over Joseph would actually make the team worse.

PS : Pinto and Kubalik won't sniff the Top-6 until injuries, this is going to be the Top-6 :

Tkachuk-Stutzle-Tarasenko
Batherson-Norris-Giroux

But yeah IF they decide to move Joseph (and not Kubalik), that price is not too dramatic to pay because of the Thomson context. But it's also so badly calculated from the GM, it hurts my brain

You're way off with the Oilers trade. Just off the top, Foegele produces 90% of what Konecny does at 50% the cost, yet he's a cap dump to you? awesome face

Konecny v Foegele
