Some serious nonsense in this one. Was this trade made by picking random names and picks out of an old hat? Gotta love a trade proposal that hurts everyone involved.

When I tried making trades for teams that I don’t know much about, I got ripped apart too. Willy and Knies would bring back much better return than that. Give her another try.👍

I think that’s why Arizona is going to lose their team because not enough people care and understand the sport in that state and city they play in, specifically when a garbage dump is wanted more then having the Coyotes
Yeah getting Knies and Nylander makes the Coyotes worse, only if you are trying to get a lottery pick lol

I don't know. I kind of like this trade for Toronto. Keller is signed for 5 years at pretty much the same cap hit that Nylander has now for only one more year. Keller is younger and put up similar numbers to Nylander last season with pretty much no supporting cast, so he could easily slide into Nylander's spot immediately. I'd definitely give up more than a probably late 1st-round draft pick to make that happen. The problem is I don't know how good Soderstrom is, so I don't know how much they'd be giving up on the Knies for Soderstrom and two 3rds part (I don't care about O'Brien and Reaves) and whether I could live with that as part of the cost to turn Nylander into Keller.

That said, I'm not sure it works for Arizona. To give up their best player, Nylander would definitely have to come with an extension, but they're probably going to have to pay him a lot more than Keller, and he's two years older, which is a minus for a rebuilding team. Is it worth that much to get Knies, who looked pretty good in his short time with Toronto but is really still just a prospect, and another 1st-round pick?

Of course this is all moot if Arizona is on Nylander's 10-team no-trade list.

Not talking about AZ… But from TO’s perspective, your top assets are (in order): Matthews, Marner, Knies, Nylander, Tavares, Lilly, 2024 1st etc.

Are you really giving up your 3rd, 4rth and 7th most valuable assets to get Keller? I don’t think he’s that much better than Nylander

He's not, but I think he's close, and if the reports about Nylander's next contract a true, in a year Keller will be a lot cheaper. I'd rather have Keller at $7M than Nylander at $10M. That's the easy part for me. The difficult part is how much to value Knies. If he turns out to be a top-line winger, his two years on an entry-level contract will offset overpaying somebody like Tavares, making him more valuable to Toronto than Keller would be for those two years. (After that, they'll have to pay Knies what he's worth, but Keller will still be at $7M for 3 more years.) But we know how good Keller is. Knies may be Toronto's best prospect by far, but he's played only 10 NHL games, so we really don't know yet if he'll be as good as Keller.

What I like about this deal for Toronto is that it gives them a replacement for Nylander without having to pay significantly more than what they're paying for Nylander now, so it helps them for the future without weakening them in the present. Unless you think Knies is a key part of their present, in which case this trade probably would weaken them now, unless Soderstrom is still as highly rated as he was when Arizona traded up to pick him 11th overall in 2019.
