Major upgrade over Berube getting the Latvian Sensation who I wanted Vegas to obtain in draft or whatever smile. Islanders might have this guy as backup or starter in a year or two depending what happens. Least he is better insurance for injuries than Berube was if nothing else. Really like this deal for them, even if it might not seem flashy. Might be one of the better trades they made, least much better than VAnek or Moulson turned out wink.

Truly unusual and good for Verhaegue. Wasn't even making the AHL and spent time in the ECHL. But within a few year a true NHL star.

Interesting. It didn’t look like a bad trade for the Islanders at the time. Verhaeghe was up and down between the AHL and ECHL while Gudlevskis was a solid #1 goalie in the AHL who’d gotten into a couple of NHL games while also getting starts for the Latvian national team. Does this say something about how Tampa Bay develops players versus how the Islanders do it, or was Verhaeghe just a late bloomer?
