I don't think there's any version of a Zegras trade that would convince me it'd be a good move for BUF. When comparing his likely on-ice impact to the opportunity cost associated with his acquisition, I don't see it coming out in BUF's favour.

That's a nice comeback, and I do see your point. But your still getting a player that has hit over 60pts twice already and probably hasn't come close to playing with some of the talent here. And I think Luneau will fit nicely. Just something different from the other Zegras Drysdale Trades.

Is the idea here that zegras is willing to sign for 7mil but anahiem thinks its to much?
Trading savoie so you can pay zegras seems like bad cap managment. Your not leaving much for signing dahlin, power, quinn and savoie would come in as a cost controled asset in a few years when you need a cheap stud to replace whoevers walking.

I have no doubt Zegras would thrive in BUF. The problem is the mix of the cap hit at a time when they'll have Dahlin, Power, and others needing renewals (plenty of space, but taking another 7mil from the D or G probably isn't wise), the loss of Savoie (who projects similarly to Zegras in relatively short order), the loss of the 1st (another valuable asset to either use or spend on a D or G upgrade), as well as the structuring of the Zegras contract in such a way where he'll be a UFA in the midst of BUF's likely Cup contention window.

If he were an established out-scorer that played a sound defensive game, then the fit might make more sense but, even then, the other issues would still exist.

Sabres have a lot of young players coming through in the next 3 or 4yrs. They will have a lot of ELC'S and 1st contracts, plus they will never fit everyone. Yes 7mill is alot but it's basically Olofsson's and Okposo's contracts next year. Sabres have 46mill in space next year. Plus you are getting a young high end RD Prospect.
