No Kaliyev in Opening Lineup

Description
Kaliyev's suspension offers an opportunity, but there are still risks to waivers. It's possible Englund is picked up by Colorado, but Bjornfot seems to have edged him out with the exception of the last game against the ducks. As much as we'd like to see Turcotte or Laffy in that 4th line, JAD has experience with Lizzo and Grundstrom.

The big issue is Rittich has played well and Copley has not, after not starting for a while Copley will be motivated to prove he shouldn't be sent to waivers tonight in Salt Lake. I also think teams hungry for a goalie aren't targeting LA's goalies and Rittich clears.

Too early to say. Spence has looked better (to me, but just slightly), I wouldn't be surprised to see both players being called up and down several times this October. There is also tonight's game, if Clarke can make a big impact I think it's a coin toss.

Not really related, but it’s kinda funny to me how Provorov’s retained salary has given the Kings their current tandem — Korpisalo might have re-signed in LA for 3.025 (Talbot + retention on Provorov).

The Kings ended up saving much more because they moved Walker ($2.65M) and Cal Petersen ($5M). They couldn't have afforded this tandem or even PLD without that move.

Both Spence and Clarke have looked VERY good. It'll come down to how they want Clarke to develop, I think. To me, he's much more of a lock for a LONG-term roster spot (ie, the Kings won't trade him). So if LA wants him in Ontario playing 27 minutes a night, leading the power play, getting penalty kill time, etc, then they have the luxury of being able to do that because Spence is ready for the NHL. If LA thinks its better for him to be around NHL coaches so he can get 10-12 minutes a night, 2nd PP, no PK, etc, then they can do that.

I expect they go the former route. Clarke is ready for the NHL, no doubt, but they allow him the time to develop and mature even more because of Spence's readiness.

I forgot about that: the dead cap from Provorov was definitely worth it, then.

Exactly, well said.

Kaliyev will most likely be paired back with PLD and Fiala on game 3.

The real question is, if Arvidsson is out for a significant time does Laffy, Turcotte, or JAD take his role. With an emergency call-up looming the Kings should at least be able to get one of these guys up.
