Next year 50m in six players......Dunno, seem to turning into the Leafs. IMO, Hertl may not be good long term value.

Montreal has no reason to do that, KH has been very good at keeping/acquiring younger guys, and trading away older ones. So they have no reason to get rid of a 24 in a trade where they take an extra 1.5 mil on the cap for a 35 year old, 30 point vet who would take up a roster spot. As well as a goalie prospect that was bad in almost every league he is in.

Genuinely though, the Sabres threw away that 2nd rounder in 2022, very bad pick. Leinonen's numbers in every league except for the stint in JYP U20 are complete crap in his draft year, and shocker, he was just as bad in those leagues in 22-23.

Trading Savoie, a 1st and 2nd for Hertl is a terrible idea and the exact opposite of what Buffalo needs.

Savoie isn't some guy, they should take that and really tear it down, Hertl's contract is gonna look ugly soon.

Sabres need a couple centers who can win faceoffs and play decent defense- yes if the Sabres were not coming out of the longest playoff drought in NHL history I'd just let Walberg and others mature but I really think the Sabres need the playoffs this year. As for SJ they are not close and really need draft picks and young players to build a young core.

Idk what youre talking about, Id do that trade. We have washed up vets taking roster spots, Roy and Farrell have higher ceilings than Ylonen and we have virtually no goalie prospects. Leinonen is huge and very young, goalies need time to develop. Dont care about Okposo he has 1 year remaining and we have the cap space.

Ylonen has 1 year remaining as well. Why not bank on that untapped potential and have trust in Dobes, Fowler, Volokhin, Miller and the next 5 goalies they draft with the picks we own now? Leinonen has shown 0 signs he'll be an NHLer, and has underperformed massively in his leagues. Let Roy and Farrell battle it our for Ylonen's spot.

Theres also Heineman, Beck, maybe Kidney... Idk we have to make some choices at some point. Idk why you would trust Dobes, Volokhin and Miller over Leinonen. Fowler I like but he isnt a guarantee, remember Primeau? Again, Leinonen is very young and goalies need a good 3 years to sniff the NHL. The same logic you apply for Roy and Farrell battling it for Ylonen's spot applies for goaltending, except we dont have good goalie prospects to battle it out. Imo its simple, forward logjam + thin goalie pipeline = trade one of our forwards for a goalie.

You can say "if" for anything, doesnt bring you anywhere. If Leinonen doesnt pan out we have Fowler. At worst we will have given Ylonen for him which I dont see being a huge mistake unless he becomes like a 60pts player (unlikely imo). The point of having more than one decent goalie prospect is to rise the odds of one of them being a good starter. You either put all your eggs in Fowlers basket or try and put a couple into Fowler, Leinonen and maybe Miller. Also Leinonen is huge which is a big factor for goalies.

I'm a goalie myself. Size isn't everything, and if we're going just on size I'd rather take Hildeby, Tolopilo, Guzda all of whom have better stats than Leinonen. Kent Hughes will never trade for another goalie prospect, I'm sure if he wanted it he would've gone with the Askarov trade that the Preds laid out. I'm a big no no on Leinonen right now. Has yet to prove anything.

your logic is very backwards ngl, maybe take the hint that 2 different independent people see the same problems in your argument. The other guy did a good job so Ill leave the other parts alone, but if getting more goalie prospects is a concern, there are MUCH better options with the same size, rather then a goalie that was bad in every level he played in last year (some of them were very weak leagues as well)

The Askarov trade that the Preds laid out? Thats just pure speculation. Big difference between giving valuable assets for Askarov and taking a chance on a goalie who got drafted to high.

Whole lotta yappin. You havent said anything but "two guys have a different opinion so youre wrong" and im the guy with backward logic. Hint: add something to the discussion or move on
