Sens really need Right shot D badly, so not sure they would be willing to move one.

Secondly, this would make Sens over the cap and doesn't help them save any money even with the retention so they say no.

I'd love the NSH trade as a Canucks fan but from what I've seen, they would not be willing to take him without retention

With the retention it would give the Sens $1.6 million more cap space. But I still wouldn't do it because we need Zub.

This is a competitive offer for Zub.

Unfortunately, 1.6 million in cap relief is not quite enough for Ottawa to justify making this trade.

Ottawa declines for now.

Sens can't afford to trade Zub. They want to compete now and while the Canucks unprotected 1st is appealing, it goes against the plan.

The ONLY player with a big enough salary to sign Pinto they can afford to move is Kubalik. It's as simple as that

From a NSH fan, yes this is the case. Would not be ok with a trade without some form of retention, especially with the number of players NSH needs to sign during the 23-24 offseason and the fact that the buyout penalty for Duchene goes up by 3 million next year.

Could it work without retention? Possibly, but cap for NSH would start to get really tight, and the number of assumptions and mental gymnastics you would have to make for this tremendous. I think for NSH to consider this, VAN would need to be willing to retain 1-1.5 million on Garland's contract.
