Description
Flip side of the trade…

I think this is good for Columbus as it trims the roster and gives them some good options with Brodie a top 4 D now, and also 3 prospects with NHL experience

Kokonnen could replace Robertson or Holmberg or Niemala…or even be added if Columbus adds Berni

Only Peeke is of interest but the most I’d pay is a 3rd

The problem is simply Columbus has too many bodies as it is. They’re literally sitting eight guys in the press box in Cleveland. They have three on IR in Columbus and that’s the only reason they can fit everyone on the roster, and there’s two young RD sitting in the press box every night. They’re not unhappy with the NHL roster as is because it’s either guys on longterm deals, top prospects like Jiricek/Fantilli/Johnson, or middle guys they’re evaluating if they’re the future like Sillinger/Bean/Bemstrom/Roslovic. There just isn’t room to take on more guys even if they’re marginal upgrades because there’s literally nowhere to put the guys being upgraded. They just can’t participate in big deals like this. There’s nowhere to put those AHL prospects.

I agree that is the most plausible but the cap won’t work for TMLs or I think any other contender... why I complicated things

I do agree with you and that’s why my madness had 3 prospects that were waivers exempt coming CBJ way and why Peeke and Robinson headed the other way as they seem to be not wanted.

I do think Brodie would fit in well though, he has game left in him but it’s not gonna come out in TO. I feel like he is a guy who can play with almost any other D, and he could thrive outside of the Toronto madness….certainly could help the CBJ as a revolving 1-7D.

What would you want in return, even if it’s just for Peeke ?

Three players being waivers exempt adds three more players to Cleveland if you just consider the deal to be Brodie for Bean and Peeke out to make a spot for Chinakhov coming off IR. And Cleveland already has too many players to the point that even 2021 second rounder del bel Belluz hasn’t even gotten to play in a game yet.

It’s a pickle. In a perfect world, a mid-20s shot-blocking defensive RD who’s always healthy would fetch a nice ransom. Instead, we’d settle for mid-round picks just to get the roster spot back.

Why is he an interest? He was terrible last season and is the 8th defenceman in Columbus.
