Pinto Meet team at arena tomorrow

Team: 2023-24 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 23, 2023
Published: Oct. 25, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
An excellent deal for Arizona so Sens can clean up PD's Pinto mess. Coyotes need a third goalie after Avs claimed Prosvetov + no longer needs 3 big IR contracts to exceed the cap floor. (Assume Arizona is paying 20% of Voracek’s salary = $1.5 m). Therefore…Sens trade Kevin Mandolese (AHL salary is $110K), Dominic Kubalik (Sens retain $1m, so caphit is 1.5m) and Sens 2024 2nd Rd pick for Voracek’s contract. Sens sign Pinto and place Voracek on LTIR. Last year of his contract; no risk he is returning; and his LTIR relief would more-than-offset the approx. $6m in buyouts and retained salaries this year. With the inexcusable Pinto mess cleaned up, thank PD for his service and show him the door.

Giving up a 2nd for only $1.5m in cap space and losing a decent forward isn't the move... Only giving up a 2nd if it means there isn't any retention.

This is excellent thinking; you got a good hockey mind bud.

Mandolese doesn't cut the mustard though. It would need to be Merilainen. I would prefer to really toss Ottawa the anchor and demand Sogaard but there is no way that Ottawa would make that trade. Because there is a C to B prospect upgrade that off weights the trade. The retained salary works against the Sens so I removed that for the ugrade in prospect rating. Still really F'n hurts Ottawa for the **** GM work but gets to the true goal of getting Pinto off the bench.

I agree Merilainen is the better prospect/goalie of the future, but not sure Arizona would see him as the better third goalie this year. If Arizona wants Merilainen, I agree should remove Kubalik's retention. (Or keep it to close the deal and get on with it!!!!)

lol should they add Stutzle too?

Arizona is already massively bending Ottawa over

Not only Kubalik at 1 year x 2.5 AAV is not a cap dump but he is EVEN LESS at 1.5 AAV, plus Ottawa gives up a 2nd and ends up paying Voracek's money owed

Merilainen was an (unknown) 3rd round pick and his stock has rose significantly since the draft

It is agreed upon that Kubalik doesn't have his peak value right now due all kind of reasons but he scored 20 goals, 45 pts last season so why "dumping" a 1 year contract at 2.5 AAV should cost a 2nd + a good prospect?

Yep, it is a massive overpay for a LTIR contract. Plenty of reasons for why but the short story is that AZ has no NEED to make a trade like this. If this were a real possibility Ottawa can accept the no lube, sandpaper finish or not. This is the NHL, competition is required and if there is a way to bend over another team and profit from it, so be it.

Well, looks like Ottawa also has no need to make this in the end... and I don't think this thread OP is a Sens fan, he was just trying to fix the cap issue
