Wouldn't say the forward core is rough; it's not ideal, but it's not rough. Biggest issue is addressing the obvious defensive issues we've been having with turnovers from Perbix, Sergachev, Raddysh, etc. If the issue with forward core is scoring, Merela might be struggling but playing on a third line obviously isn't helping him get going. Plus, he is waivers exempt and can be sent down, so we can just call up Koepke, Fortier, Goncalves, or whoever from Syracuse that's been scoring instead.

Personally I think TB should hold on to Howard for at least some prospect depth at a time we have very limited picks, same for guys like Gauthier, Alnefelt. No telling what the Stamkos situation will bring (I'm assuming the GMs are waiting for a final cap number to be finalized) and that basically changes the whole future of the team.
