I dont know if you can in this deal without including someone on your current roster, if Nemec would be off the table I'd probably find another place to send Drai.

Didn't know he was 23 as well, I only really noticed him on one game of NJ I watched and assumed he was older.

I'm very high on nemec specifically. Also I look at things based on the numbers

Let's say Drai is a 20 million dollar player. We're getting 16 mill in surplus value in that case

Mercer at a 4x4 bridge over the next 4 years (all of which are in our championship window) probably provides 8-10 mill in surplus value over that time
I'd value a 1st at about 5-6 mill
Nemec at 950k over the next 3 years+the first year of whatever his extension is probably provides about 15 mill in surplus value assuming his development is: quality 3RD next year. quality 2RD year after that,quality 2RD year after that, decent top pairing guy in 27-28.


Personally I'll be looking to move Marino at some point to regain assets and allow Casey to step in

They've got top prospect holtz playing 10 minutes a night with Nate Bastian and Chris Tierney right now despite him looking fantastic all year and preseason

if the oilers trade mcdavid and go into a rebuild they should be expecting 6 years of first round picks plus prospects

Every coach has a reason for their moves, sees something we dont.

Though I also was shocked to see Holtz playing on the 4th, move him up with Mercer and Haula at least, drop Tierney once Hischier comes back.

Would rather have prospects that have shown they are worth their value and a couple closer 1st, never know where teams will be 5-6 years down the road so those 1st might be worth nothing compared to the top end prospects the team currently has.

Though some posted had 6.75*8 year deals, either way there would be space to give him more if needed.

Drai is an AMAZING player...but it's also a guarantee for just two years. The Devils have a core to win now, if anything they need the D to get experience and find a goaltending playing well enough to keep them in games. The Devils don't need Drai right now nor should pay up something like this.

That's fair. The Devils aren't in a position to keep Drai beyond this year, so we're not a good trade partner anyway
