Most certainly, in my opinion.

Gallant would be a welcomed addition. Unfortunately Ottawa has had injuries but blaming the season on injuries again is unacceptable. Time for a change.

I have a feeling that after saturday there is a 3 day break, perhaps with a loss saturday we see a coaching change for the sweden trip.

Maybe they'll do it after and let DJ have a nice paid vacation to Sweden before firing him

Even Michel Therrien would be an upgrade. But I'd pass on Gallant. He's a coach you hire to fire in 2 years. He's a competent enough coach, but every organization he's coached tires of him.

My pick right now (and it changes every few weeks) is Claude Julien. DJ was a good players coach to keep vibes up with a,young bad team, but he's got no defensive structure to speak of, and while he's been great at nurturing the talent of the roster he's done little to help them with their flaws. Time for a hard ass who will bring structure and accountability.

Sending them off to Sweden with a new guy behind the bench instead of DJ, who they all like is the kind of kick in the ass they need. Trip to Sweden would be the perfect time to get to know the new guy too.

But seriously, I highly doubt this is the case. I can't see Ottawa rushing to fill the GM right away. They have Staios and Bowness in the short term, and long term they'll want to fond someone who is in line with what Andlauer and Staios are trying to do. I actually think the odds are pretty good that Peter Chiarelli will be an Ottawa Senator again, but I do not think he will be the GM. I can't imagine they'll end the GM search with the first guy to ask for the job. As some sort of Advisor role? That I could totally see.

As for the coaching, Gallant would be one of many reasonable options, though certainly not may favourite by any stretch. But there is absolutely zero chance that the Sens would get as far as deciding they would fire DJ Smith, AND deciding on a replacement before they decided to fire the guy.

I like Gallant, maybe he'd fit for this team. Chiarelli I'm not sure, it could work out but my guy is Mathieu Darche, bright hockey mind
