Why would Toronto help a team they might be playing in the playoffs?

Should the leafs do this? Yes probably but will they? Well Bert has said he wants to resign so I doubt it but I’m very interested in this

They would be helping themselves in the process…

You can’t go with a 20 man roster. The reality is it would likely need to be Grzelcyk and Geekie with some retention (500k) to be feasible.

The question. Is what would help the Bruins and Maple Leafs more? As much as I like Bertuzzi, part of me believes this is a regression.

Fans and overacting 🙄

Leafs don’t even consider that and I hope Boston never gives up anymore assets for Bertuzzi. Free agency maybe. Even then, I hope not.

Gosh, I remember when people were saying $7m x 7 for Bertuzzi last summer.

That's why Yzerman never re-signed him. That's what Bert wanted. Looks like the other GM's agreed with Yzerman.

That's what Bertuzzi was going for and it burned him. IIRC the Bruins and Bertuzzi couldn't agree on contract length. Boston wanted 3/4 years and Bertuzzi (and his agent) wanted more. Had Boston made a deeper playoff run and Bertuzzi kept playing like he was, someone would have given him what wanted. Unfortunately they didn't and Bertuzi & his agent completely mis-read his market. Now he's struggle to find his game in Toronto and their fans are already turning on him.

I'd bring Bert back via FA next year. Maybe this time he'll be good with signing a 3-4 year deal.

I would have said $4.5m to $5m over 5 years is probably fair, but there is a lot of risk there. Something around Barbashev’s contract (or Zacha’s extension).

Works well with Pasta, but who doesn’t really, but outside of his offense the rest of his game is pretty bad. Would not hate a reunion but there are better options.

Enough with the Bertuzzi talk, especially in free agency next year.

Bruins have bigger fish to fry and that's their need at center ice.

The status quo is working. Don't fool with it. Add in free agency next year.
