NYR will definitely be outbid here…the question is if Kane doesn’t care- but sees this as his best opportunity to prove he’s worth another sizable 3 or 4 year deal…all while giving a good shot at the Cup.

I mean ultimately it’ll come down to: do I want to play for a great team, go on a cup run and redeem myself or do I accept money from the highest bidder and forget everything else

He can accept the highest bid and still redeem himself. If he wants to go on a cup run though he's gonna have to accept less no matter what team signs him.

I meant redeem himself from a subpar half season with the rangers, not in general

There will be other teams, like DAL and COL who can also make this claim. Will come down to what situation Kane sees as being best for him….and only he can answer that.

I will say COL and DAL have the benefit of taxes/cost of living over NY. But I guess we’ll wait and see what he does

6 points in 7 playoff games seems pretty redeeming for the rangers

He just had the kind of surgery that is more likely to end a career than resurrect it. The security is far more valuable for him at this stage. BUF has a goofus GM that will give him 4 mil for like 3 years, there's little chance he's turning that down.

Kane will have been out for 100+ days, and turns 35 in a week or so, so he will be able to sign a deal with heavy performance bonuses. I wouldn’t not be surprised if he gets two years…especially if he goes 6 months or longer off the ice.

Something like…2 years with $2m base…and up to $5m max in performance bonus. He probably won’t be able to achieve full bonus this year, but in 2024-25 he will have full year to do so. Which means any carry-over won’t hit books until 2025-26.

He cannot sign a 35+ contract until next year unfortunately. I don’t know if Drury is willing to give him more than 1 year

Pretty much sums up what I was saying before. It’ll come down to money or winning

He can sign performance bonus-heavy deal this year though

well he's already won several times. Like there's no way his hips can handle a deep playoff run lol. This is a final cash grab before retirement.

something like...$2m salary

$3 million at 40 GP
$2 million at 60 GP

...for 2 years.

Unlikely to reach bonus in 2023-24....but should be able to in 2024-25, so any carryover would go against 2025-26 cap.

He didn't spend 100 days on the IR on the last year of his deal though, thats the only other scenario that would allow them to offer performance bonuses. Unless rehabbing as a FA counts.

Well I had a post a while ago where I had Kane and Wheeler rotating every other game or two games so they both don’t have to play a full 82 games. Keeps them both fresh and abled by playoff time

I think we're his first choice but Drury wants to make sure before buying, maybe 900k ish. Yet nobody should be optimistic after Backstrom Hagelin Jovanovski. At 900k split duty with Wheeler maybe, although we need the opposite of P Cane, speed & grit...

If you miss 100 or more days due to injury, you can sign performance bonus heavy contract. Example being Connor Brown this year.

Good to know. Yet nobody is giving Kane more than 1x 1-4m. Like Brown Blais Sundqvist with knee injuries, they stink for a whole year. Kane is Backstrom Hagelin Jovanovski hip ending procedure, he can't guarantee 30 games

It depends on the timeline. He could probably get more than $4m in place like Buffalo. If you are competing with $5m x 1 year…and offer $1m x 2 years with serious bonus money that could be spread over 3 years…may be only way a cap-stretched team could get it done.

Sure, but I doubt any gm is willing to give him more than 1yr

If it’s $1m base? I don’t know…I think that’s about as riskless as you could make that deal.
