Hart Discussion

Description
Just trying to start a discussion on what it would take from LA to get Hart out of Philly. They seem to be regressing to the mean, and I'm assuming they're near the bottom of the league come deadline.

Untouchables/non-negotiables are Byfield and Clarke. Can safely assume that the main roster is not going to be drastically altered by any trade (so guys like Kempe/Fiala/Mikey Anderson/etc are safe).

Would the following package be enough to tempt Philly brass? Is it an overpay? Underpay? Looking for thoughts and a discussion on what Philly is looking for as they embark on the rebuild.

  1. Hart, Carter ($1,989,500 retained)

Flyers would want futures/projects, so for a deal for Hart, like you have in your trade above, Turcotte would be a block apart of the larger trade heading to Philly. Philly would love to take Spencer, but considering how's he's played, I doubt LA would want to base on the idea of having Clarke, Doughty, and Spence on the right. To me, if he's available, I'd like to see Laferriere (Or Spence) apart of the deal with some Bonafide upside. If that also means sending a piece back like Frost than I'd be fine with that. So I guess that brings me to my proposal;

Flyers: Hart, Frost(Or some player similar)
Kings: Tourcotte, Laferriere, 1st, Conditional 2nd (that can become a first if the kings reach the ecf final this year), Copley

Yeah its certainly a discussion. I actually really like Kaliyev if he can play LW. If I'm being honest, I'd probably do a straight swap on that trade.

Kaliyev isn't on the trading block, guy is breaking out. Spence is somewhat replaceable with Clarke nearly there.

I can't see the Kings having any interest in Frost. And I'm also not sure what you're trying to say about Turcotte in your initial sentence. Trying to say he's not a future or project?

Also, confused about your Spence comment. Trading Spence is an option because Clarke is ready to replace him. The right side after the trade would be Doughty, Roy, Clarke.

Kaliyev for Hart, 1 for 1? I wouldn't like it, but I'd imagine LA's organization would think long and hard on that. If Arvidsson returns healthy, and the emergence/development of righties Laferierre and Chromiak... Hmm. I'd have to think about that.

I will say that Kaliyev is not a left winger, despite his left shot. He's always played on the right side.

I thought the same regarding Vilardi. The fact of the matter is LA wants guys that can play with speed. If they have size, great, but the speed seems to be the most important factor. I love Arty and his shot, but the one thing he lacks is breakaway speed. He's slow, and while it's not a detriment so far to the Danault line, there's a reason that line looks so good with Arvidsson.

Would I have been shocked if it was suggested Arty was an option on the trade block? Last year, absolutely. This year, after the Kings moved Iafallo and Vilardi? I wouldn't be shocked by anything.

I wrote this at work so I was't entirely paying attention

Tourcotte is a project player much like tippet, who can be apart of the future.

Spence is someone who could be long term if Roy leaves, could be a nasty right side.

I shoved in frost because of the recent scratches, figured he could play left wing, if not, someone like Allison could be subbed in.

If he's a RW, Flyers are out. We got too many RWers as it is.

Oh I see. Thanks for the clarification. Agree on Turcotte. I'm a huge fan of his, despite his injury troubles to this point. I think he has clear NHL upside, in the middle 6 of the lineup.

As far as the right side of the defense, running Doughty, Spence and Clarke is just running three of the same types of players. Roy is necessary because of how good of a shut-down defenseman he is. He's needed on LA for his ability to PK, play the last minute of games they're leading, etc. Spence and Clarke don't replace that capability. So the idea is keep Doughty and Clarke for the offensive defenseman, and move Spence because he's the odd-man out.

At a certain point, it becomes about the cap for LA. Even the move I did forces LA down to a 20 man roster while barely under the cap. Taking on extra contracts isn't feasible for LA.

Fair enough. Turcotte is a guy who can play either left wing or center (and has, for both Ontario and LA).

Honestly, this value looks pretty spot on to me. Any less and Philly has no real reason to make the move, any more and LA should be asking themselves if a Goalie should really be worth that much
