Yes, I think CHI declines, too; at least, as this trade stands. My understanding is that Hall has been/is the perfect mentor for Bedard - an invaluable piece for the Hawks. Second, I believe Hawks don't need Steeves. I also think there's no way the Hawks part with a very valuable retention slot - for two years - for anything less than a 1st round pick. Last, there's a big value to TOR for the Hawks to take Bertuzzi's cap hit off their books. (The Hawks view it this way as he'll be long gone by the time the Hawks are relevant again.)
My counter proposal (and I don't know if this'd be of any interest to the Leafs, or whether the Hawks would do it) follows... If it doesn't work, that's okay - I'd be fine sticking with Hall, too.
To TOR: Hall (50% retained);
To CHI: Bertuzzi, Niemela, and TOR's 2026 1st round pick.
Gonna take an overpay for the Hawks to cough up Hall in any trade (for this year, anyway)...
