We are getting the Flyers 2nd rd pick back. They will probably only be 10 picks apart. We will have to pay to get rid of Klingberg, no matter how crappy it is.
IMO Leafs have maybe a 3-4 year window to win with this team, so Larsson will still be in his prime. Lily will still be a small, soft 6th RD that gets less than 10 points every year. Timmins will be better than him when healthy.
Yes Brodie is a better D but I’m addressing the Leafs needs and big Z will get good offers. It depends on what Cgy wants to do. If they want to try and stay competitive, they will want a good D in return or if they are rebuilding, they may prefer prospects and draft picks.
But we are just arguing opinions. I see your point of view but mine is just different.
👍
Liljegren has more than 10 points
last year. He had almost 20 points. He might be on the small side and not very physical, but he's an effective 2-way defenseman. Also the dude is 24. Let him develop before firing him into the sun. He's also not a 3rd pair D. He's been on the 2nd pair all but a couple games, and been good there. Adam Larsson is 31 right now. He's out of his prime, and based on trends, he's gonna start his decline relatively soon. By that 4th year of the window, he's probably gonna be washed. Why would you give up a rising player for a falling player during the window? On a much larger scale, you can ask Stan Bowman how that worked out with Panarin.
If you agree that Brodie is better than Zadorov, why would the Leafs give up the better player plus some for a worse player? Just because he hits? That would be foolish. The Leafs have McCabe for that. Hold onto the one legitimate defensive defenseman that they have unless something better comes along. There's no need to make this trade, especially when Giordano has to play 20 minutes a night any time a defenseman goes down. An extra D is more needed than exchanging a good defenseman for a less good defenseman.
As for Sammy, you can't trade him without another option. He has shown he can be good, and he's been good recently. Trading him now only to have a bad Martin Jones back up an unproven Woll is a terrible idea.
