Don't hate the deal but think the Habs would rather keep Matheson

This is essentially 3 deals in one

Savard for a second : habs accept

Dvorak for Beauvillier : habs decline

Matheson for Raty, Myers and a first : very close but habs decline

Overall pretty close but habs will keep Matheson

I think Dvorak for Beau is a W for Montreal. They get out from under term and can free money to sign Monahan

This is terrible for the Canucks

Savard is worse than Myers and has an extra year of term

Dvorak is worse than Beauvillier and has an extra year of term

Matheson is solid but not worth giving Raty + 1st + 2nd + Blueger for, especially considering his history with Pettersson

I don't think this improves the Canucks enough to justify trading 1st and 2nd round picks as well as Raty.

So the Canucks are trading major assets for garbage and a guy Pettersson hates?

We have a real lack at C while we have way too much W. Also, Dvorak is playing very well. I don’t really know how Beauvillier is doing but I heard he is pretty bad. And all those trade with him to Montreal disgust me of ever getting him.

Also, we have around 14m for next year. We don’t need to make space for Monahan.

Definitely not, Dvorak has been reliable this season thus far, Beau has done nothing more than a simple 4th line role. Dvorak is more or less worth his cap hit imo. Maybe 700K too much at max

Savard is definitely better than Myers, he gets injured more though

Dvorak is undeniably better than Beau, its not very close this year

MTL doesn't trade Matheson for a late 1st and B+ prospect that is 100% sure, but I can see why VAN doesn't want anything to do with Matheson

Savard has been worse than Myers for the previous 3 seasons. Myers has also been solid this season outside of a couple games

Beauvillier hasn’t been great this season but still has a better PPG than Dvorak and is better defensively. Also is an expiring deal. The only thing Dvorak has on him is he can play C

The Matheson part neither team wants to do I agree

Savard has 3.6 Block shots/hits per game this year Myers has 2.93. They have the same ppg. Savard eats more minutes having eaten 2 more minutes of ice time per game than Myers. Savard has 0.4 penalty min/per game vs the 0.8 penalty min/per game. The only minus is Savard is more injured overall.
I'm not 100% sure about Myers, but I'm still pretty sure Savard is a much better leader/locker room guy as well

As for Beau and Dvorak, it's just more of a stability thing for MTL. a reliable 3rd line center that is very good on the faceoff dot, decent defensively, and puts points when needed, MTL really doesn't need a bottom-six winger for Dvorak. Dvorak has had very decent offensive play with Slaf and Cole as well, and points should start racking up a bit more soon

Myers has been better according to both Evolving Hockey and The Athletic the last 3 seasons, and Myers hasn’t been that good in those seasons (apart from 21/22 where he was average). Myers also seems to be liked in the locker room as well

Dvorak is good at faceoffs yes, but has awful defensive analytics over the last couple seasons. He’s a ~30 point 3C who’s awful defensively making 4.5M. I’d much rather have Suter in that role for his salary. With Montreal’s wingers I get not wanting Beauvillier, but Dvorak is a worse player with an extra year of term. I’d much rather have Beauvillier

I wouldn't use the Athletic as a good source. They have absolutely outrageous takes all the time. Not saying picking one over the other is an "outrageous take" but I sure wouldn't base my hockey knowledge based of it.

I think we can settle for Dvorak-Beau that we each like our guy more
