the gretz trade ,which was actually more players going out then in, was about the cash the EDM owner needed (and 3x 1st). and no 5x players of meier ability adds more to a team than 1 mcdavid. as EDM (and TML) shows a few superstars with nothing else doesnt win squat it takes a complete roster

I would argue that if Edmonton had a half way decent defensive structure and consistent goaltending that could keep the other team below 2-3 goals per game they would have a chance to win with McDavid doing the work

im in complete agreement that if EDM had other better pieces they would win, Im saying even with McD he is only 1 of 5 on the ice and only for 1/3 of the game - and say your AZ that is 5 players + 1st, so talking over 110min/g of ice time, 5 really good players has more impact than 1 superstar w crap around him. and gutting a team of 5 or 6 top players to get 1 makes so hard filling the roster competively

Would you not argue that having a pure superstar to play with Keller (whom is a star player just not a superstar) and Cooley (Who is on his way to being a star) would potential skyrocket the Yotes to a contender?

be fun but look at TML - core 4 + Reilly is 60% of cap so other 18 guys is 40% and they cant do anything playoff wise. I'd love to get McD of course but not at decimating the roster and depleting the future.

As great as McDavid is, I'm not doing this. Remove Greig maybe but Greig on top of Chabot, Norris and 1st is an automatic no.

However, financially, any owner could be inclined to pay the price for marketing/money reasons.
