I dunnno, this seems pretty fair. Wyatt Johnston is (or will be) a Top line center on most teams, and Heiskanen is one of the best D men in the league. It gives Edmonton cost certainty and they don't need to worry about resigning Draisaitl.

I agree though, he is the 2nd best player

Not directed at you specifically, but I find that Miro's value is so underated around these parts.

ooooo I kinda like this one but,

Stars probably reject based on fit, no team has ever traded their no.1 d-man and then turned right around to go on to win a cup.

Edmonton probably rejects too based on value but it's a lot closer than most fans think, they might actually accept it in all honesty it would be 50/50

Don't think Dallas would or should do this. Usually it's not the smartest to trade your top defenseman and continue to try and win. Plus Heiskanen has a great contract and they may only get Draisaitl for 18 months

Also that seems like a real big overpay for Hanifin

I agree. I considered a trade with Lindell, but it was harder to make the cap work in the trade. This was just simple.

I think he would happily resign in Dallas. Imagine spending the best years of your life in Edmonton and being filthy rich... Most places would seem a lot better.

The Flames trade was to fill the hole in the d core. I left Stankoven out of the deal intentionally but I think the stars would accept if they made the Edmonton trade. There isn't a ton of D available outside of Calgary, let alone a 26 year old top pairing defenseman. I agree it wouldn't happen if miro didn't leave.

I'd rather trade Robertson and Stankoven than Heiskanen and Johnston.

Regardless. No.

He's the 2nd best player in the world. Just google the phrase "nhl players with most points last 5 years"

If a trade doesn't make you feel uncomfortable, then it isn't realistic

Miro is probably a Top 5 D in the world. That is, if you are not looking only at goals and points. Miro also, does not have the luxury of playing on his strong side and with a partner of the quality of Toews.

In other words and IMO, this trade proposal favors Edmonton.

You'll get no argument from me that Miro is a stellar defenseman. However, it doesn't make the trade unfair. Draisaitl is, after all, the 2nd best player in the world right now, and not past his prime. IF cap wasn't a consideration (or NMC) I would say that a more complex deal to be had.

This was the simplest option though, and the Calgary deal was merely a way to bolster the d core after the trade.

I like the trade idea, don't think either team would do it but is a really interesting idea.

Mostly commenting to say "If a trade doesn't make you feel uncomfortable, then it isn't realistic" is an amazing saying.

Yeah, I would love to take credit for it, but it was another guy on here that said it to me when we were discussing a trade for Konecny.

The trade is unfair when you include Johnston for Bourgeault.

Johnston is definitely better than Bourgault. However, Draisaitl is worth more than Heiskanen. I had thought about Bouchard, but that leaves the issue of cap space, which means Dallas has to send something back as well. Lindell's NMC was also a reason for not structuring the deal around him. It would have been easier if he didn't have it.

I disagree and I would never pull the trigger on that trade, but it’s not the end of the world.
