He walks to free agency if you offer him 10 mill. Toronto taxes are not the same as those places. You need to offer him 11.5 at least

Remember Gaudreau got 9.75 after a 115 point yeat

Hey I put over in brackets meaning up to interpretation, for me they are not overpaying per guy…but paying too much for the same…high regular season points and still unproven playoff guys

Washington took 10 years to get over the hump. Tampa took a while as well. Same with Colorado. TO is no different. Winning the cup is hard. Their time will come..... hopefully

Yeah but Nylander’s deal is 2 years later. And Gaudreau is a small winger and only wanted to go to a select few teams. I could see Nylander signing mid 10s in a good state with low or no tax. But he’s not signing that in Ontario

Anyone who's been watching Nylander should have seen this coming. When he's on, he's one of the best players in the world. His problem has always been consistency and it's been better each year. I said this many times, what does it look like when (never if) he puts all his talent together with a full year of consistency? Well this is what you have. An absolute dominant player who can take over a game at any moment.

This isn't luck, it's not him playing for a contract or any other made up excuse people have to undervalue him, it's just his growth as a player. I don't think this will be his best year either. There are some moments this season where he's just pushed guys out of his way, and I think that is going to morph into more anger and eventually he'll add a little bit of violence to his work along the boards.

If Treliving could have signed him for 9.5 before the season when he was saying less than 9, he messed up. And from all accounts that is exactly what happened. Now he has no leverage. Treliving sucks, it's beyond clear by now. Great work Shanahan!

Tree wanted him in the 8.8-9m range Nylander stuck to 10m

So how was Tree gonna get him to 9.5m lul when he wanted 10m and his reps stuck to it thats why he wasnt signed before the season. If he said fine 9.5m he would have been signed right there and then.

Either way its a contract year players often play their best hockey that year. Lot of lady luck and skill often come this year seeing performances unheard of. Willy is doing that rn

Would not surprise me if he gets 110 points this season than once paid drops back to around the 80 point range

If im Brad I go okay Willy heres your 10m x 8 years he wants more you go nope. As if he goes to FA as we saw with Gaudreau could end up with less

As that guy had 10.5m waiting but took 9.75m to go to CBJ.

Or Kucherov 128 points and got 9.5m

I get its TBL but 128 points for a wing is insane that man could have demanded the world from them or walked in FA. Someone would have gave him 11m

Kucherov signed his deal a million years ago and in a no income state tax 😂😂😂😂 that’s not even a good comparison at all

Even so if we apply it to this situation Kucherov could have walked in FA and someone potentially would have gave him way more than TBL offered could have been the first 12m RW in the NHL.

As at the time no wing gave a team that kind of production and instead of testing FA he took less to stay in TBL. This was also in the no covid era.

Nylander sure could potentially get 11+m in FA but if he really wants to stay as he said he has 11m aint happening. Got a feeling 10-10.5m x 8 years will happen soon

These same people have been adamant every year that all or at least one of the core 4 was going to have to leave or want to leave and every year they are proven wrong. It's beyond silly at this point

Self proclaimed Leafs "expert" Mike Augello of Hockey Buzz has had Nylander traded for 7 years now. LOL

But he's basically wrong about everything he says. 😂

1 year is the important thing. Maybe they take a step back next year and then come back with a lot more space the year after when JT is making 7 or less.

Yeah but that's still 1 year of Matthews Marner Willy etc.

I don't even think it will be half as bad as many think. A lot of young guys on elc's could become full time players and maybe things work better than expected.
