Oh great. We are going to disregard NMC’s and cap problems. Former Hart Trophy Winner, Taylor Hall, has been traded for a second round pick on one instance and two AHL defenseman last year. Does that mean very good offensive wingers aren’t worth much or is it just an instance?

Good goalies don’t generally get traded because GMs like their jobs. A bad goalie is a good way to get a GM fired. The sample size of GOOD goalie trades not driven by cap or a younger replacement is nominal at best

I believe that Edmonton should just cut Campbell next year and deal with the ramifications, but you aren’t getting a good goalie for crap. Getting off his salary is going to make every deal one sided because his deal is terrible.

You’ll get a Skinner or Vanacek type if you want to be cheap. Those guys are readily available

What are you saying.

I never said Saros wont get a haul if he gets moved. Hes easily getting a haul.

My sole point is that no team trading for a star goalie is gonna trade away their best, young defenseman. That makes zero sense. Would New Jersey move Luke Hughes for Saros?

I mean we saw this when it was reported the Hellebucyk asking price started with Nemec and NJD laughed.

My prediction if Saros gets moved is Vanecek, Casey and a 1st from NJD. But no team is trading more for a goalie under any circumstance.

This is terrible for Edmonton, and exactly what they will do. I will never stop laughing when this happens.

LMAO, on what planet?! It's already been said numerous times by the insiders that it will take a minimum of 2 1sts to dump Campbell's contract and more likely 3 1sts. It's 5 mil for 4 years for an AHL goalie, teams aren't answering the phone for less than 2 1sts if they were Campbell likely would have been moved by now.

You keep making the same points lmao and they mean nothing

Saying Bouchard is not close to top 10 RD is just such a bad take.

Top 5 goalies dont get traded because teams know goalies are so inconsistent. Saros has been bad to start the season. He could get a 1st, B+ prospect and roster goalie but he aint getting more than that.

Idk if the disagree is value of Saros or value of Bouchard at this point, because it seems like all yall just keep saying Bouchard sucks when every single advanced metric shows he is elite

If the advanced metrics say that then someone needs to rewrite the formula because when you lay eyes on him you realize he is very flawed.

Not worth your time to debate him. He thinks Bouchard is the next coming of Rob Blake when he plays more like Justin Holl

The reality is a pending free agent entering his 30s that you are going to have to pay a ton of money to keep isn’t not going to secure a top 5 pick. You give the ability to sign a contract and it’s not extortion, the value should be more than a rental.

My guess is NJ would laugh at that price for Helly or Lindholm or Hanifan. It’s a function that each player has a rental price if they don’t have a long term contract. I don’t believe Boston or Dallas would trade Swayman or Oettinger for Bouchard. You take out the age consideration and normalize the salary … and it’s about the player.

The reality is NJ looks like the next great team except for average goaltending and it looks like they are going to need Nemec. Buffalo hasn’t had decent goaltending since Ullmark left and seems to be the place where goaltending prospects go to be devalued.

If I were Edmonton, I’d inquire about Gustavsson from Minnesota. They have the goaltender prospect that will take over and he should be acquirable. I don’t believe he has an NMC.

Teams had the ability to sign Marner when he was an RFA and no one did. All they had to do was give up first round picks. Comparing Bouchard to Marner and Matthews in this situation is completely wild anyways. Based on your logic I can't wait to see Bouchard flying around for team Canada next time they have a team. jesus

Bouchard will probably be on team Canada at the World Championship when the Oilers miss the playoffs.. lol

I'm not sure that guy who thinks Bouchard is a top 10 RHD has ever watched him play.. 🤣.. He's so bad defensively, probably not in the top 20 to be honest, is lost in his own zone.

I think Saros will get a haul, just not Bouchard. I think he gets a B+ prospect, 1st and goalie. I think a 1st, Seamus Casey and Vitek Vanecek return is something id expect

I'd go with a little more, maybe: a 1st, Bourgault, and Skinner for Saros
Then 2 1sts and a 2nd to remove Campbell

But that is a lot. Edm would be trading their next 3 1sts, a 2nd, and two good prospects for a goalie who has been great but is having a poor start to his season. Big risk.

But Rodgers point has merit. The Oilers need to fix this now or else that might lose two of the best players or pay said players a ton extra to stick around.

Bouchard is very talented and he is having a fantastic season after a very good season last year. The question is, is he worth losing Skinner, Edmontons top prospect and another 1st? Maybe, but I'm glad I'm not the GM in Alberta (either of them actually).

I know it got heated but you both made interesting points and I enjoyed the back a forth. grin

Quoting: Rodger11
Exactly. The alternative is to run skinner out for 60 games and waste another season of the best 2 players in the world and watch them walk out the door for free because they are tired of the goaltending.
