You try to acquire a competent goaltender as opposed to a star, keep your first round pick, and ride it out this year unless you believe that Drai or McDavid will ask out if you do that.

If Drai is going to ask out, I’d target Jeremy Swayman or Jake Oettinger … but only if he explicitly says he’s going to. Otherwise, I’d never trade either one. Period.

No matter how people try to say otherwise, acquiring a great young goaltender is like securing the holy grail. There are plenty of mid level goaltenders out there because of pure numbers, but great young goaltenders rarely get treaded if the team knows what they have

I’d personally consider trading hyman, Kane, RNH. Recoup assets in picks, prospects/young roster players. The free agent market is dense this summer. If MCD is hurt then this year is going to be a write off. Buyout Campbell in the summer too.

I don't think you "fix" the Oilers anymore. Chairelli really bungled the early McDavid years in drafting and developing a suitable support cast and they've been trying to plug holes with the roster ever since. The absolute smartest move they could make would be to trade McDavid and Draisaitl in separate deals and rebuild the roster from the ground up.

Certainly not by adding a 1.5m overpaid backup G and a 2.5m overpaid fragile offensive D for a lottery pick and a 2m decent C

the oilers cannot be fixed, the D is AHL level bad and that is being generous, the 2 contracts that oilers NEED to move out are going to cost an arm and a leg each to move (campbell and Nurse).

That Oilers pick is 3rd OA right now but at the same time, it's really risky for both sides... Trading a lottery pick vs trading Chabot for a mid 1st if the Oilers turn it around (which they still could with a guy like McDavid)

Plus, I don't think Korpisalo would be very happy if you trade Forsberg now. Not good for attracting UFAs in the future
