Quoting: KingExLeafs
McCabe had 3 years left at 2 million, and the Chiarot deal was a mistake.
I think the Flames will get a 1st for Tanev, and a 3rd for Zadorov. This deal has both plus guys on the bubble who can make an impact in the bottom six should the Flames decide to move on from the likes of Dube, and others.
In no way does term on that deal justify a middling D man that leaks chances that plays on the bottom pair being the only remaining piece from that trade. You just stated that Zadorov is a 5 so he's worth a third but two extra years of Zadorov would warrant a 1st? If only there was a GM that made deals with first round picks for the likes of Travis Hamonic or something.
Flames can get a 1st for Tanev, retained they can get more. Flames retaining on Zadorov and taking back money could pull a 1st from a contending team. Florida, Dallas, Winnipeg, Carolina, New Jersey, Seattle, Arizona, Detroit, Buffalo are all teams in, or close enough to the hunt, with either the ap space or they're accruing cap space big time to afford either Tanev or Zadorov or both. The Leafs are not in the drivers seat for this deal.
Couple of easy questions.
1. What benefit do the Flames get from making a deal now as opposed to waiting until more teams are in the mix with cap space, unless a team is drastically overpaying?
2. What benefit do you think the Flames get out of your deal above?
3. Why would the Flames deal both in the same trade for a really really bad return?
