Yeah, but look at Tkachuk's years between the 3rd and his above-PPG year. They are different situations but Nylander is more so deserving as he literally showed progressive rises each year, and what his best years are in his most recent years, plus you're paying for ufa years only.

Tkachuk also signed in a no income tax at 82.5 mill cap not 87.5 mill cap

Doesn't matter, Tkachuk is a better player. Played better at a younger age. It's not a good comparison. Meier is a better comparison. 10 is tops for Willy, no matter how badly the goons on this site want the Leafs to massively overpay.b

Doesn't matter, Willy gets max bonus money in TO which is just as big of an advantage. No matter what bs you guys want to use to fuel your hope. It's not happening

He absolutely is getting 11

.849 ppg player. Has 17 games of career hockey and he is being compared to Pasternak.

My bad - the authority has spoken. But as a SENs fan - I’d think you’d have the self awareness to 🤐. I mean SENs were and still are the worst managed team in the league so taking advice from you guys seems counterintuitive

This team is soft as butter and would go nowhere come playoff time.

Agreed, it’s a terribly constructed team. I assumed the SENs fan was just trolling Leaf fans but apparently not 🤷🏻

Do you think Nylander thinks Tkachuk is a better player or that he cares even if he is? He's a pending ufa, so he has a lot more negotiation power than either Tkachuk or Meier had. So, in terms of contract situations you are right, that Tkachuk isn't similar, but my point was just about the part where you were trying to minimize the work that Nylander has put since 2019 up until now, but more importantly what he's been doing in the last few years. In terms of numbers, Meier was a lesser comparable to Nylander during the off-season.

He was asking over 10 prior to the season, which sounds like he was asking for Huberdeau money, which probably means that he would have accepted something between 9.5-10M. Now he could be firm with whatever number that it was that he wanted or he could be saying well now I want Pastrnak money but be willing to accept 10-10.625M (or whatever his previous ask was). It doesn't really matter that he doesn't have the body of work that Huberdeau or Pastrnak had prior to signing their deals.

The Athletic did a poll asking execs what they thought Nylander would cost and the range was 9.25M-12.25Mx8. If we take that as the potential ufa offers that he can get that's 64.75M-85.75M. 10Mx8 would be a pretty compelling offer, but I do think he does have a good chance of getting 11Mx7, so maybe the Leafs do something like 10.25M-10.5M (82-84M). In the end, he very well might only get 10M, but he could definitely get more potentially. Even if Nylander is worth 11Mx8, I don't think the Leafs offer him that since they will try to get the best deal possible, and he's probably not getting anywhere near that in UFA. If Nylander does want to stay in Toronto, he's probably not asking for 11Mx8.

No one really knows what he was asking for. Just speculation and since it's TO, it's massively overblown and now the goons are chomping at the bit praying for it to blow up. Happens every year. All you guys said Matthews was leaving, and then he would cost 15 million and were wrong on both accounts. Now Nylander is getting 11? Guys with way better track records don't command that much and yet here we are. Why? Because its TO and 80% of this site wants to see TO burn more than they want their own teams to succeed. It's ridiculous

That's true, but I think it probably was actually 10M+. I don't think it's because people want TO to crash and burn but more so because of the media painting those guys as being greedy, especially Nylander. There's also the fact that many players have priced themselves out of Toronto in the last few years because of the flat cap, so they are stuck in that mentality where it's a choice between a tight fit and letting a guy go. People also forget that contract negotiations are negotiations, on here people typically just assume that the team is going to win by a landslide or the player. Also, sometimes people just rather overestimate than underestimate.

I think I was predicting 9.4-9.75M prior to the season as being the sweet spot where they find a deal. I think you were saying something between 9.25-9.5M. I think now it would be around 500K more. I think he will definitely get double digits so 10M-10.25M. Would definitely be a competitive offer to anyone offering him.

As for Marner, I don't think the Leafs should offer him more than 11.65M-11.75M, he's more than likely to be the highest-paid winger with that cap hit and Tavares 5.5-6M; putting the total of the core 4 at around the same total cap hit as they take now.
