Necas gets plenty of (somewhat justified) flak for his lack of defensive play. Laine does not pass the eye test defensively. Add on that Necas is an RFA and I wouldn't trade him 1 for 1 for Laine, especially since his next contract will likely come in under Laine's 8.7M (although probably not by much).

Also for this year Necas has more than twice the points that Laine has.

Chinakhov is an interesting prospect, but frankly with how well Turbo has played this year as well as his psychic link to Aho, I don't see him being traded either.

Necas gets flak for defensive play? I don’t see that…my knocks on him would be confidence and decision making with the puck. When he’s engaged and confident, he’s one of the best playmakers in the league. When he’s not - he might as well not be on the ice. However, I don’t think he’s a liability defensively, he’s adequate.

Agree on the Laine point, just don’t see the fit.

Kadri's been one of Calgary's best forwards lately, don't need out of the deal, especially not retaining for Gudbransson.

Columbus shouldn't have any interest in the future of Kadri's contract, which would be an anchor as soon as next season as Fantilli and Sillinger mature and as long as Jenner is still on the team. Gudbranson's important to the room of young guys. Definitely pass on that one.

Carolina passes on the second one, so therefore the Winnipeg deal can't happen.

They're not moving Danforth. He's the perfect fourth liner and veteran and he's stupid cheap.

I don't know what Dallas's needs are, but no way does Jack have that kind of value especially right now with a broken ankle.

Considering they just called him back up, I'd say with confidence he is not available.

These look pretty bad for Calgary and Carolina IMO.
Sure, Calgary gets out of the Kadri deal. But they take on another defenseman when their blue line is already pretty crowded, and that's 6 years of retention on Kadri.
Teravainen and Necas are combined for 16 goals, 40 points on the year. Chinakov and Laine combine for 7 goals, 11 points. Carolina's a contender and they aren't going to give you a first to get worse.

I as a Pens fan will happily take Justin Danforth off your hands, though.

Think many teams see Peeke as a 3rd pairing guy, if not a decent7/8. Consequently your cost may seem high as is the CAP hit/term. Vancouver for instance may take a chance on him if they get to move out CAP too for a position of greater need. Garland may be the appropriate (same term) player coming back the other way (as many others have pointed out), although he has done very well on the third line of late. Perhaps CBJ could add another player they want to offload (again, as many have pointed out) to make the deal work. Olivier? It could look like: CBJ: Peeke/Olivier Van: Garland/Studnicka (Van retains $900K). Studnicka is 24, can play C or W and can be buried (100%) in minors. Laine/Fantilli/Garland ?

Laine doesn’t have the value that a lot of people seem to think he has.
