I think Yzerman would rather keep Edvinsson in Grand Rapids for the rest of the season playing big minutes and gaining confidence. But that's just my opinion.

He'll definitely be on the team next season. He'll likely be called up for a few games this season. Maatta might get a 2nd. I'm thinking 3rd though.

Agreed. Also I think Maatta has been a very steady defensman and plays can and has played meaningful minutes

Maatta is a better defenseman than what most non Red Wings fans think. Look what he did for Hronek's career.

Term doesn't tend to add much value if any to the Maata caliber guys.

A team will very often rather give themselves the freedom of cap space, knowing that they can sign a Maatta type guy in FA if they want one anyway

Edmonton should be trying to get Maata.

If they end up being sellers by the deadline then maybe they do move him if they can get a decent return but otherwise, he's probably staying put until the off-season at least.

Yzerman has always said if your play dictates you belong on the team he’ll make it happen. I’m sorry edvinsson has done that. Think he would make the team better and give us more offence from the back end on the 3rd pairing for this season

I agree what you said will likely happen cause Yzerman couldn’t help himself and signed a ton of guys and despite what he says he’d do he won’t do it. I think it’s the wrong move
