Well Bourgault is a nice pièce…

but a whole lot of nothing other than that and we give up Monahan and our last retention spot at that. Got to think this is a hard no.

The hope is Monahan returns a late 1st and Bourgault qualifies as an equivalent. There may end up being better offers, but getting a prospect over a pick avoids conditions or protections.
Retention is assumed to maximize his value anyway.

The question is whether a 6th is enough for Pezzetta.
The players included are just contract balancing.
I think some Oilers fans believe they can avoid Brown's performance bonus by moving him. That's not the case, so they may as well keep him at this point, even as a depth piece.

Does everyone here really feel Monahan is worth a first round pick or an equivalent prospect? I just don't see it for a guy who's about to turn 30 and hasn't stayed healthy for half a decade.

He got of to the same hot start last year and his body failed him again. He is a huge gamble and not worth a first round imo.

Since we are projecting TDL trades one has to assume Monahan would have played the approx 50 games to that point in the season. The assumed value of a 1st is based on his play and its assumed he would be healthy. If he isn't healthy all that goes out the window, since no one can predict the future with 100% certainty, we have to base evaluation on what a player has done thus far and assume he will remain healthy, if you want to mitigate risk just add a games played condition (which I assume any GM would do anyway) like the Habs did when they resigned him last year. Say a conditional 1st based on Monahan playing at least 50% of the remaining games and 50% of the Playoff games

No way. Brown carries a 3M bonus cap hit for next season.
Not sure if that moves to Montreal or status with Edmonton even if he is traded but still value sucks
