For a 1 year rental on Tanev

Zadorov went for a 3rd and 5th. Tanev is not worth a 1st..

Completely unrealistic. Tanev fetches a 1st and more.

Best save a Tanev deal for a time when multiple teams want him, i.e. the deadline. The Canucks got Zadorov for the 5th and 3rd because Vancouver had the 'best' offer for him at the time, the one not involving any retention.

Whatever offers come in for him will determine his value, I just hope there is a long enough lineup for his services. The cap can screw everything up.

Ah, to be fair @Rhea, if Conroy had the luxury of waiting, he likely would have received more, and had better offers, as the cap hit would be lower etc etc. Unfortunately, the big guy went public with his wanting out (saying it was because he 'hadn't received a contract offer') .. who knows if he would have fetched a 1st or not (I know I made a pitch like that but the market sets reality), but the point still stands... could have been better than a 5th and 3rd, but ill timing, and they risked Zadorov playing worse over time post-request.

True but like you say, this will.all depend on timing and Conroy. I don't Z is really that good to be honest so I am not surprised at the return but Tanev is a better dman by far. Remember they will also risk Tanev getting injured if they wait too long as well. The way he plays, unfortunately it is a consideration.

I hope it works out for you though.

We have heard this over priced narrative for Flames players before.

Seeing as Zadorov is on team number 5 in what 10 seasons - perhaps he really isn't as good as people think or he is bad in the locker room etc. Flames got what they traded for him and an extra pick for a disgruntled player who went public.

.................. Tanev is way more valuable than Zadorov, he's a legit top 4 defenceman with some of the best defensive metrics in the league depending where you look, and he has an extensive track record of making his partner better, especially young defencemen. Zadorov just gets hyped up because he'll blow a guy up and go end to end once a game but then the rest of the game he's losing his man in the d zone and coasting around
