Two potential lottery picks and a 14-goal $3.6m forward for a rental? Seems like a little much, no?

I don't disagree with you for trading Nylander. But these type of sign and trades NEVER happen. Can you name just once, when a Cup contender (Leafs are 3rd in the Eastern Conference) allowed a star player to negotiate a contract with another team during the season. Not saying the Ducks do the trade either. They keep their picks and use the cap to sign UFA(s) next summer.
An big overpay for Saros. Likely an overpay for Tanev too.

I don’t think Anaheim is that bad are they? Anyhow it probbsly wouldn’t be Anaheim trading for him most likely another contender or up and coming team looking for a boost. I don’t think 2 lottery picks is worth nylander obviously but 2 1sts between 15-32 is good value no?

A lot too much for a rental. But the author did make the usual silly "extension in place" which never happens. Still an overpay by the Ducks.

Like I said to the other guy this trade probably doesn’t happen with Anaheim they’re just a place holder. Plus I’m not really sure I’m I’m certain the player and the agent can help out with the trwde to make sure Willy goes where he wants to go

As a Preds fan, I think that's too much for Saros. At last year's deadline, sure. But with TOR only getting two playoff runs out of him, and Saros not looking like his usual self so far this season, that's an overpay.

He is a rental…they would get a late 1st and a decent prospect…but Leafs might as well keep him.

“Extension in place” is (a) an off-season thing and (b) an RFA thing (mostly). If a team lets another franchise talk contracts with their players in-season…that would be unusual. And very well could backfire if agent makes narrow demands that limit the market.

If Willie Nylander is going to sign with us during the season, why wouldn't he sign with us in the off-season? It's not as if he's going to carry us into the playoffs.

Adding Nylander as a free agent (emphasis on "FREE") in July makes a lot more sense than expending three prime assets for three quarters of a season of him now.

Good joke with the Ducks giving up multiple firsts for someone they can sign in July
