Quoting: DopeGM
Terrible asset management for Detroit? In what way is it terrible. It’s terrible if carrying Campbell’s contract hurts them in the minors which I’m not convinced it does.
A $1.5M ish cap hit for three years for Broberg and a first is smart business as Detroit winds up the rebuild. Still, it’s a huge favour to Holland. Campbell’s contract is truly horrendous and worth about three firsts to take on. I’d rather have Broberg and shoot back Kostin but I really like Broberg.
It’s terrible for the following:
1) waste of retention slot
2) Soup’s contract is not worth its weight in the problems that follow.
3) other teams will have interest in Reimer without any strings attached
4) Broberg would be a redundancy without being an improvement overall.
Kostin was acquired at the cost of SY doing Holland a favor (buying out Yamo). He has been a nice addition, and not a negative asset.
Maata was re-signed, and has been exactly as advertised in a steady, defensive role. He is also not a negative asset.
Broberg (lateral move at best)
Campbell (negative asset)
Presumably late first (pick 20-28?)
For
Reimer (improvement for EDM
Retainment (- for Detroit + for EDM)
Maata (improvement for EDM)
Kostin (EDM fan favorite)
