Description

If I'm EDM I'm not making that trade, but EDM isn't smart so I can see them doing this because it does make them defensively better and saves them money going forward. It's not a bad deal at all but is not worth it to lose Bouchard. But again, EDM isn't smart so I can see them doing that.

No idea what Laine will cost but deal would help both teams IF CBJ wants to get better because they desperately need a 2C, so it will make them better. But don't know if they are looking to get better or suck it up again. I'm assuming they want to get better based on the Johnny Hockey signing and frees up money sooner than Laine would have.

It will suck for the Caps to take Campbell on for another 3 years after this but to me it's worth it for Bouchard. As for Laine, he's never been a play driver and probably isn't worth his contract but I think with the right linemates and coach he could get back to 40 goals. It's a gamble but they need to take gambles if they want to win Ovi another Cup.

Additional Details:

Caps take on a crappy contract but they have the cap space now with Backy gone and possibly Oshie retiring and Kuzy being terminated in the summer. It's worth it to get a top young defensemen and some good picks they can use to get better.

EDM

Additional Details:

EDM gets a cheap, good goalie they desperately need. They also get a reliable defensive defensemen that will be great for Nurse or a make a great shutdown pair with Ekholm. Lastly, they get a top tier 4C that's built for the playoffs and gives EDM the best center depth in the league.

All these players are signed beyond this season and for cheap, saving the them almost $2.5M on the cap. EDM needs to win soon and this helps them drastically on the defensive side of the puck and save them money. They also still get to keep their 1st this summer in case they want to add more. Would I make the trade if I was EDM? Probably not but they aren't the smartest and this trade does make them better.

Additional Details:

I have no idea what should be added to this trade if anything. Both players are struggling but have their positives and negatives. For CBJ, getting a top 6 center helps them because their center depth sucks. Kuz would also fit in well with their other Russians. And he's cheaper than Laine. But he's also doesn't have the ceiling as Laine and is older.

Caps receive the player with higher upside but has a higher cap hit and is signed longer. Meaning if Laine doesn't work out they are stuck with a bigger contract.

I'm sure Caps would have to add but I just don't know what. I don't think it would be a top prospect or 1st so I added a 2nd a B prospect.

Doubtful the jackets would accept this trade. Not sure if laine is a fit for the jackets but replacing him with Kuz is a backwards move and doesn’t really free up cap space. Would rather just bank on laine playing better

you would have to add a top prospect and first for the Jackets to consider this, which they probably still wouldnt do it

They are not getting anything close to a 1st and top prospect for Laine. Not saying they'll take this deal, but no way in hell Laine gets that much.

It doesn't suck at all. EDM gets a good young cheap goalie, a very good top 4 defensive defensemen, and a the best 4C in the game (that EDM has already kicked tires on) all while getting rid of a terrible contract. They, overall, get better. It would cost them Bouchard, which wouldn't be wise to move, so I understand not doing it, but this trade does not suck, not even close.

I dont think they are trying to trade Laine, so it doesnt really matter. That is the cost for Laine and for us to take Kuzy, who we dont want.
