Was Monahan worth a 1rst, or is Treliving an idiot?
No kidding, I'd say Campbell is worth an (unprotected) 1rst and a 2nd.
Allen is definitely not worth a 1rst before the deadline IMO. I'd love to be wrong! But I seriously doubt we'll get that for him. But hey, Treliving is with the Leafs now... maybe they'll need a goalie before we move Allen...
NHL is like a big ocean, when a team start to be injured and need to do something quickly or in need to something there will be blood and the shark around will smell it. No one will give free help, the help will have an cost.
With the situation of Calgary and the trade with Montreal for Monahan and an first round for nothing happens on the fact that treliving was in real need to exchange money out quickly to be able to sign Kadri before the deal fell off and go elsewhere. No team wanted to help him for free and I think that Montreal was kind of the lowest price asking to accept the dump. I presume team wanted more then an first round pick or wanted some retention which was not what Calgary could do.
In case of Campbell if he was able to have some decent performance he could be trade for less but as is contract is for 3 more years after this season with a good amount of salary, the cost to move him would be higher.
The team with the cap space have the biggest hand on the stick right now in negotiations but with next year potential 4 millions add to the maximum salary capacity, team will have less power to negotiate better return for the space as the team with struggle will be a little bit more free.
So doing two first round pick unprotected to acquire Campbell contract should probably be the standard demand of team with cap space.
I think as an trade base between both team should be around this:
Montreal: Bourgault, Campbell, foegele (easi cap move for Allen) , 2 first round pick
Edmonton: Allen, (an bottom six player like pezzetta or ylonen to remplace foegele on cheaper deal)
