Big shuffle

Team: 2023-24 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 8, 2023
Published: Dec. 8, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not particularly serious, trades seem fair for both teams (unknown on Philly, as mentioned, not a lot of explanation on the appetite for fans to keep him)

The thinking here is that Laine still has an elite shot, and is the kind of player that could come alive on Carlsson's wing. For whatever reason, he's not working in Columbus, that roster should be competitive. I'm not excited at the prospect of moving Zegras, but the possibility of Laine and Carlsson coming alive with a support piece could look like Matthews Nylander of things go well. Zegras would get a better shot at being a center in Columbus, presumably behind only Fantilli on the depth chart.

Second and third trade is just moving out UFAs

Forth is the flier of a trade, I would turn Peeke into Risto. I think a combination of Mintyukov and Ristolainen would be a very strong pairing.

The succession plan is to hang onto Vaakainen another year or two as #7, Helleson is the injury call up. At some point, Vaakainen and maybe LaCombe are shipped out, Helleson becomes #7, is LaCombe gets shipped out then Zellwegger comes up. Helleson takes over from Gudas when he retires, and then Luneau/Warren would pick up from Rosto when his deal comes off.

A lot of salary comes off the books the next season and only bottom 6/4 players to resign.
Trades
1.
ANA
  1. Laine, Patrik
  2. McKown, Hunter
  3. Peeke, Andrew
Additional Details:
Laine gets to move to the Golden Coast, and while he'll be in the shadow of LA, he'll be visible from LA. Laine gets to play RW next to one of the best playmakers of his generation in Leo Carlsson, all he has to do is get open and shoot.

Columbus RD situation is overstocked with multiple years locked up, some room needs to be cleared out for Jiricek

McKown is the prospect of interest in the trade. Undrafted player from California, big bodies right show forward, may or may not become an NHL player.
CBJ
  1. Zegras, Trevor
Additional Details:
Columbus gets a 1-2 of Fantilli Zegras for the next decade.
2.
ANA
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (NYI)
  2. 2025 5th round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
Playoff depth meat and potatoes right shot D. Toronto fans seem interested in bringing him back.
TOR
  1. Lyubushkin, Ilya ($1,375,000 retained)
3.
ANA
  1. 2024 2nd round pick (NYI)
Additional Details:
Some prospect of interest, Lou gets his boy back.

(Not entirely sure where to send Rico, but a 2nd and a B prospect for him with retention is a fair price for 50% retention)
NYI
  1. Henrique, Adam ($2,912,500 retained)
4.
ANA
  1. Ristolainen, Rasmus
Additional Details:
Unsure on Philly's perspective on this trade if they want out of Risto's contract or if they are content to ride it out. It's pretty obvious he's not a 5 million dollar player, but Anaheim has the cap space to absorb it. He's an upgrade on Peeke, so Philly would get a mid pick and some cost savings.
PHI
  1. Peeke, Andrew
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (NYI)

I don't think I would pay more than a 3rd for Lyubuskin (retained). I really liked him with the Leafs and wanted him to get extended but 2.75m was too much for him. I thought Buffalo was a good fit for him when he signed there.

Was hoping the Leafs traded Holl and then signed Buch to a 2m x 2 year deal. Never happened!

NYR would take Henrique, maybe add another pick. Only problem is figuring out how much cap they’ll actually have at TDL

I know we were talking about it on another ACGM, Columbus accepts that IMO. Basically a hockey/trimming-the-fat trade that has some serious upside for both teams.

The LW could still use some help, but otherwise that center depth, RW talent, and goaltending combo could make the Ducks serious contenders in the next couple of years and potentially for the next decade.

We can take some cap back but it'd have to be expiring cap, so no Goodrow.

Rather keep Zegras who showed he was willing to put the work in defensively when he was healthy. Laine would be a huge defensive liability and to be honest his 5v5 goal scoring hasn’t been good since leaving WPG. Looks like he’s a passenger on his line and doesn’t create goal scoring chances for himself. Sure Carlsson would create chances for him but I’ll take a play driver with the willingness to improve defensively over the passenger who’s going to be a huge liability in a man on man defensive system.

Fair points. I am of the opinion we need a 1RW natural goal scorer for this roster to pair with Leo. Maybe with Laines performance in Columbus we send over more of a PLD style package of roster players like Strome (much as I would hate to break up the one line that consistently works night in and night out, it's clear that McTavish's and Leo's developments were faster than expected and now Strome is somewhat excess goods). Or maybe we chase one of Nylander or Reinhart in FA.

One way or another, we desperately need more scoring, and it'll be next to impossible to get me off that hill.

Personally I’d put this years 1st on the market for a legit young proven star at the draft if it’s not 1oa. I will admit I know little to nothing about this years draft class tho. But I’d imagine a high 1st and one of the extra D prospects could net a star. It also depends on who’s available tho.

I'm rather hoping we use the 1st on one of the RHD prospects available in this year's draft (very heavy on RHD talent in the top 20) I'm just hesitant about Drysdale working out with his injury history and do not want to be stuck again in the endless cycle of hunting for a #1RHD through trade or FA signing.

Outside of Laine I'm not sure who'd be available on the trade market either. We'd be looking to pull off a Dach type trade at that point.

He's not a bad defenseman when deployed correctly, but I think you may have mixed the ACGMs up, I flipped him for Risto in this one.

Idk who it would be either but I’d still put it out to see what that package could get in return. Scoring is a bigger need than D for the ducks now even if RHD isn’t completely set.

As a fan of both teams, I love this. Shoot, Columbus can probably sweeten that more with other prospect bodies. I personally just want Zegras and Kent Johnson on the same line.

Pitch a proposal, Verbeek likes size with hockey IQ and a bit of skill.
